@Jessica89 My psychiatrist told me that sometimes you have to go past recommend dosage to get a response for OCD. I’m currently on 40 mg of Prozac but my psychiatrist told me that the therapeutic dose of Prozac for OCD is 80-100 mg (the highest recommended dose is 80 mg). Furthermore, he told me that he once pushed Zoloft to 250 mg in one of his patients that had OCD (max is usually 200) and the patient’s OCD successfully responded to the higher dose. So essentially what I’m saying is, don’t be too concerned yet. I’ve seen literature online that Lexapro can go as high as 40 mg for OCD. However, if you do not see any improvement in your symptoms at all and are concerned the medication is not working, you should voice this to your psychiatrist so he knows how you feel. I was on Anafranil for a while but my OCD didn’t respond to it much. I hope that helps.

If you want a second opinion, you need to ask another psychiatrist, not people on the internet. We all want to help, but we don't have the expertise to do so

Sorry Katie, I’m not trying to give medical advice. I’m certainly not a doctor. It’s just that psychiatric medications are very interesting to me but I do think one of my obsessions/compulsions is listening to other people who are on these meds and making friendly recommendations. But it’s an obsession and compulsion nonetheless and this NOCD app has been very triggering for me. I suppose maybe I should delete this app since I’m not even using it for therapy really.

@ma345 I'm not trying to reprimand you. People with OCD often end up ruminating on meds and it's natural to want to help by providing personal experience. That's how we are socialized. Shifting the focus to talking about how we cope with specific side effects or how we feel about medication lets us share information without sliding into the role of the doctor

@NOCD Advocate - Katie You are right! I am always ruminating on meds etc. I feel like “checking” that meds have worked for others gives me reassurance ? it’s a compulsion

I have taken Anafranil with the worst side effect, I’m 24 yrs old & it gave me terrible hot flashes, one day I full blown peed on myself, no warning urine just came down & after a few weeks I began to retain urine. The bottom of my stomach had terrible pain as if I were carrying a 20lb weight in my stomach.. now I have also been constipated.. I am now tapering down so I can get off this medication. It was a nightmare for me.. I hope when I finally get it out of my system My body will get back to normal
