I thank this person for helping explain to people who don’t understand OCD, but also just want to share that I feel like every person w POCD is now checking through this compulsively like a checklist looking for evidence. It’s not about the content of the obsession, it’s about the process of OCD that matters, right? I know that is kind of the point the moderator is trying to make, but this could be triggering for those w POCD, almost like listening to the OCD and “trying to figure it all out,” “am I or aren’t I,” when in reality the whole problem is this process of mental analysis and they are fixating on a fear created by intrusive thoughts.

I interpret that to mean that YOU are compulsively checking this for reassurance. If you're struggling, we can strategize together. But that means focusing on your own experience, not on other people's

@NOCD Advocate - Katie My point is that people shouldn’t be trying to prove or disprove thoughts that are not a true threat. This concept, and what I wrote above, was what I got from Taylor Newendorp’s webinar. When this community issue was mentioned on one of the other webinars, I read this immediately after, which is why I responded. Yes, I have struggled with mild OCD, which is why I wanted to share my response. I understand if you stand by your original statement, I shared my reaction because I am trying to understand the process of OCD and that is how I felt about it. I am hoping for this to be a safe community for myself and that is why I care.

@PureOCDCat I agree that people shouldn't try to prove or disprove thoughts. But it's impossible to provide any information about anything if we want to eliminate the possibility that someone could use it to check.
