I recently attended OCD group therapy through the NHS as I can't afford to pay to see anyone. I am still struggling but the group has provided a sense of direction. We learnt more about ocd, its causes etc and about how we can tackle it, primarily the ERP. I also discovered this app through their recommendation. The waiting list was 6 months but it was worth the wait. I'm not better but, as I say, I have a way forward. Others in the group actually took to the ERP much quicker than me. You have nothing to lose in going. I will also say that as I'm socially awkward talking about my OCD was hard at first in front of strangers but as the sessions go in it does get easier and honestly, I found the more I opened up the more I got out of it.

Did you look into individual therapy or have you found that the group does the job? Obviously with the current situation I feel like individual is the best route; thank you though it’s a relief to know there’s viable options through the NHS

@Soph I would have liked individual therapy but it was never an option offered to me unfortunatly. Regarding the current situation, I doubt you'll get one at thr moment. The final session for my group was after lockdown so we had to have telephone calls instead. Enquire though, I'm not sure, I just know there aren't any group sessions going on right now.

@dn32 They are still doing individual therapy sessions but using online video. I actually couldn't connect to online video so I had a telephone session instead

Hi, I don't have pure O but have a small amount of experience of being treated for OCD on the NHS. I went to my GP back in September as my anxiety levels were through the roof and felt that I couldn't continue in that way. I have also had OCD for most of my life but have never sought help. But I felt that I couldn't tell my GP about my anxiety without confessing about my OCD so now I'm being treated for both. I have to say I haven't really got very far with therapy yet. There is a waiting list, a ton of questionnaires and I feel like I've been passed from person to person quite a bit. I'm having private face-to-face therapy sessions for 50 mins each week. I has 5 sessions with a trainee clinical psychologist. She was really great but in my 5th session She told me she was leaving the service and that she couldn't work with me anymore as trainees get moved around for a variety of experience. That was 6 weeks ago and my new therapist couldn't start work with me for 6 weeks. So I've now had 1 session with her but I still feel I haven't really progressed as I'm having to recap and fill my new therapist in on everything. She's been given my notes but I'm not sure how much my notes cover. So at the moment I've eally just been talking about my issues and I haven't started ERP yet. I guess just talking is good for me because I don't really feel that there's anyone who I can speak to in detail about all of this. I've been told that I get 20 sessions in total (so 14 more) on the NHS but then if I wanted to return and work more in detail on another of my issues then I could always return to therapy. Not sure if this helps but it's my experience so far.
