I was seeing a psychologist at one time and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was there so she could help me but all she seemed to be concerned with was getting home to her crossword puzzles and caviar. Every session I would go in and tell her my symptoms and even had to go as far as explaining to her that I strongly felt based on my own research that I had pure ocd. She wouldn’t have any of it, and her BEST advice to help me with my severe OCD was to put a picture of something that made me happy in my wallet and when an ocd spike would hit me to just pull the photo out of my wallet and look at it. She went on to tell me that my researching of ocd was only making my situation worse which to that I thought well lady if you are not going to help put me through ERP or send me to someone who can help me then what else am I supposed to do I have to attempt to research and help myself at that point. But she was a worthless excuse for a mental health professional and I will never enlist her help ever again. I can absolutely relate to your situation Praise. I would be glad to start a discussion with you if you would like. We can compare our experiences with OCD.

Yeah sure, I'm happy to have a discussion. My therapist is good, she really cares and she understands OCD. I'm just at this roadblock right now and I just can't get past it. She says that my self loathing and lack of regard for self(which is true) is the reason why I continually look for something to obsess over and won't allow myself to use the tools to recover(which is the part I'm not sure I agree with).

Im at the same roadblock as you. Even though I’m not currently seeing a therapist anymore I feel like I struggle everyday. I’m currently suffering mainly from hit and run OCD and I feel like instead of using facts and reasoning to help validate that my fears are false as well as living with uncertainty I’m not able to use these tools to eliminate my anxiety whenever I’m out and about and am driving and suddenly have a spike.

Have you and your therapist tackled over-correction exposures?

Please explain these overcorrection exposures....

Sure. Over-correction exposures are the tasks right at the top of your hierarchy. They may seem far-fetched to people even without OCD. A common pitfall of ERP is stopping after the tasks you need for regular life. Imagine your comfort zone as a rubber band. Erp is the process of stretching it out. If you start off with a small rubber band and stretch it to a medium sized one, when you let go it will settle back to a medium-small size. To get it to stay medium sized when you let go, you need to stretch it out to a large size

Ok very good metaphor. This approach makes a lot of sense Katie. You mean these tasks are right here on NOCD that we can follow? Hierarchy?

The tools portion of the app has features that let you create a personal hierarchy, but not specific tasks to include
