You said yourself in your post: you’re seeking reassurance. That’s a compulsion and it’s not going to help you or anyone reading this. Maybe it’s normal for SOOCD. But maybe it’s not. You don’t need to know and shouldn’t keep trying to answer this if you want to recover from OCD. Lean into the uncertainty. Others experiences aren’t yours anyways.

@AdamRoyale No matter how many times or how many different ways you “check,” your OCD will never let you be “sure”. You have to stop checking. It may make you feel better in the short term to get a temporary answer, but your OCD will always find something new to question. Until you can start resisting your checking compulsion and stop seeking certainty, your obsession will continue to torture you.

@AdamRoyale @AdamRoyale I understand. I had SOOCD at one point as well. And recovered from it. I speak from experience both with OCD and with this theme. You don’t need to keep compiling “evidence” that you are exactly who you know you are. You don’t need to prove anything. And you don’t even need to be certain. In fact, the more you can lean into accepting uncertainty about every trigger, the more you’ll heal. If reassurance is a big compulsion for you, it’s time to start resisting it. I know that’s easier said than done! And in the short term it will SUCK. More anxiety, more intrusive thoughts, more uncertainty. But after a few weeks of resisting this, you’ll notice a big difference. The more compulsions you cut out and the more you embrace not needing to “know” this, the better you will feel in the long run. And you will be able to reclaim your identity.

I’m a gay woman but I’ve had this happen too, when sexual orientation OCD affects a situation of mine with a man. It causes so much doubt and distress for me, but I think it’s typical for SO-OCD.
