I use this medicine called Anksilon. I googled and it seems like it is the same stuff as Buspar. I have found that Anksilon has made me maybe a bit more stable in general but of course when OCD hits hard my anxiety gets so so much worse. So I would say that Anksilon has helped me when it comes to period anxiety but of course the anxiety is always there because my PMS symptoms are (or actually used to be) crazy strong. In my opinion Anksilon and hormonal iud (or mini pills before that) are quite a good combination though. :D Mini pills can make you feel a bit too neutral in my opinion! Now that I have my hormonal iud I can kind of feel my menstrual cycle and how my body is reacting which I like.

Thank you for responding!!! I have actually considered the hormonal IUD but my body and brain can’t handle it too well (the hormones) I’ll definitely speak to my doctor about anksilon! Thanks so much for the info!

@Dess "There have been very few studies on hormonal IUD impact on premenstrual mood symptoms, and none examining use of hormonal IUDs specifically in women with PMS / PMDD." I wanted to share this copypaste I found. :D To clarify, my doctor never said that the hormonal iud would help me with my PMS. This is just my own experience! I am sure your doctor has more information. Also! I was really against the hormonal birth control for almost 10 years and for example I never wanted to try the combination pills. When I was using the mini pills I definitely experienced a few side effects (mind&body). Like I mentioned, I felt really neutral but I was also spotting a lot. Sorry, English is not my first language so I am not able to explain this better. Now that I've got my IUD (Kyleena) I feel like myself, minus the horrible period anxiety and heavy flows! Also my acne has cleared up a lot. I think all this has something to do with the low dose of hormones that is released in the uterus. Basically, my periods were pain in the ass to begin with and the hormonal IUD has given me some balance back to my life. I kind of hate to admit this.?? Also about Buspar/Anksilon. For me it took maybe 1,5 months to get used to the medicine. I remember feeling dizzy and nauseous after taking it. Also taking the medicine at the same time everyday is important. I thought that this info might help you! I really hope Buspar/Anksilon will be THE medicine for you.?

@emkala THANK YOU! I feel you about Kyleena. My doctor said I should get it because it only spreads hormones in the reproductive region not throughout the body! So we will see! I’m happy you mentioned something similar to buspar. Do you mind me asking what ocd theme you have?

@Dess I would say I have got three different main themes which are scrupulosity, hocd and rocd.? Because of rocd I did not want to get a proper hormonal birth control because I was afraid I will stop loving my boyfriend. When I was trying to decide if I wanted to get Kyleena my doctor told me that the hormones Kyleena releases will let my natural hormone levels to stay about the same which means ovulation can happen etc. She showed me a picture about this but I can't find it online! After insertion I was cramping which lasted about 4 days. After that I was fine! The pain was nothing compared to my period pains though. :D

@emkala Right omg with the copper iud I had... the pain was awful. I think because it is bigger and it’s COPPER hahah so I got it taken out bc my periods were so heavy. I’ll look into it!

@Dess I am sorry to hear that! :( That sucks. I really feel you about not wanting to use extra hormones! I wanted to get the copper IUD sooo bad but my doctor explained that if I get one there is a huge chance that my situation will get worse. She works at birth control centre so I believed her. It is true that "natural periods" can cause you to have serious menstrual disorders. :/ Not nice.

I’ve taken buspar but just for anxiety in general (before I knew I had OCD). I took it on two separate occasions. The first occasion it took like 3 weeks to start working but because I was under an incredible about of anxiety and fear and didn’t calm down until I was in a better environment. The second time it worked instantly it seemed and not only knocked my anxiety way low but my intrusive thoughts and fear of them had disappeared (I have suicidal OCD so when I noticed that the medication was working and I purposely tried to trigger myself to see if it helped, the thought didn’t bother me at all!) I did have to stop taking it because it started causing me lightheadedness. This probably didn’t answer your actual question but that was just my experience with buspar!

No no that was very helpful thank you!!!!!! I’ve read so many good reviews about it and some bad. But I like the fact that it’s non habit forming AND non addictive like the benzos I was used to. I’m glad it helped with your intrusive thoughts!

Currently having an anxious night because my hormones are doing whatever they want before my cycle starts. It's so frustrating. I feel very, very on edge and like I'm constantly anxious about something bad happening. Also been nauseous and having sleep issues. So irritating. How does everyone else deal with the spike in anxiety and OCD before periods? I'm seeing an endocrinologist on Monday to try and help but I feel so stressed out.

Has anyone else taken Luvox? How long did it take to work? I'm on day 26 or 27 and I am not feeling better. I almost feel like I've been worse. my psych says it takes time and I'm likely not worse, just need time for it to adjust but im scared. Ive been taking 75mg because we went from 25 to 50 to 100 and that seemed like too much so we went back to 75 and now we are going back to 100. We are also adding Buspar three times a day so hopefully that does something. Idk, I am trying to hold out but yesterday was so bad, I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital or inpatient care somewhere.

I was prescribed buspar for anxiety. I’m worried that the psychiatrist didn’t fully understand that the more triggering feelings of anxiety come from the feelings i get mentally. I just kind of wonder from a professional what Buspar does. Google scares me I don’t know what the facts are and I just need some facts.
