I worry about having children too. Mostly due to the fear of not loving them or something. But we can’t let our OCD win! It’s our lives, our values. Things will get better ?

This is my biggest fear too. I used to feel excited to think about having a little baby of my own, watching them grow up and loving them. Since I developed sexually intrusive thoughts about children, my biggest concern is always ‘when you have your children and care for them, you’re going to molest them’. It makes me so sad to even type that. However, treatment is out there. We don’t need to live a life of fear and shame! With treatment, our obsessions can become so much smaller and take up less of our life. Like what the above commenter said, we can’t let OCD win. If what you want is to have children, absolutely do that. Having children and persevering through the hard days will be so worth it, letting OCD make your decisions will only make you sad since it’s just another form of avoidance. Also, the more you tell yourself ‘I don’t want to have sexual / violent thoughts about my kids, that can’t happen’, your brain is likely to send them your way since it knows it’s distressing for you. If it’s possible, I think it would be good to take on the attitude of ‘maybe I’ll have intrusive thoughts about my kids, maybe not, I dunno. Maybe I’ll have some real scary ones!’ Try take the attitude of not caring about thoughts and it will be so much easier! Sorry for the really long post but this is so close to my heart. Sending love to you ?

Thank you for your reply! I’ve heard that OCD attacks what you value most. So if you love children, that’ll be what it attacks. Sending love to you as well ?
