I used to wipe my laptop keyboard with wipes and it got damaged. So I would say not too.

Ok thank you. My mind is questioning whether I have or not. And I think my answer is to try and let that be. Maybe I did put soap on, maybe not (even though I'm pretty sure I didn't)

I get you! This could have been me. But I have learned to recognuze that sense of urge! It's OCD speaking. And even if it speaks about doing ERP it's wierd in the moment, becayse you have to show whos the boss! You do ERP out of your decision, not out of a OCD urge. Hope that makes sense!

I'm sorry you're/have gone through this theme too. I find it really hard to differentiate between what's actually therapy and what's OCD telling me it's therapy. It makes me question a whole lot of stuff that I do. I'm glad you understand it too.

My OCD often bargains new “rules” or explain compulsions as part of testing. Like, “you can pick at your skin a little bit and then, since that’s harder to stop it means you’re stronger than if you don’t pick at all.” You can guess how well it goes if I listen.

It's just an intrusive thought and doesn't mean anything. Leave the thought there if it wants to sit in your mind, but don't pay it too much attention and go about your day ?

Okay I'll try. It actually went more like this and I feel like I'm getting tricked into doing "therapy exercises" when it's just OCD Went to get cloth to clean fingerprints off TV. Before wetting cloth, my mind said "You need to pump soap on that cloth and rub it on your TV screen for a theraputic exercise." I thought, "That's a weird thought. I'll just use water." Then, after wiping fingerprints off TV I think "Did I actually pump soap onto that cloth and rub it on the screen? I can't remember." Now, what do I do? Do I need to rub soap on my TV or leave it alone? If there's soap on my TV, shouldn't I get a cloth to remove it? Do I need to rub soap on my TV or leave it alone? And this is what the OCD keeps cycling about.

@canigetawitness I don't think you actually put soap on there, but if you did, you'd see it. If your TV looks clean now, let it be and do something else.

@Maybe Otherwise, the "what if" game will probably go on indefinitely because you lack the feeling of being sure.

@Maybe Ok thank you for your help, I'll try to do that & let all the what ifs thoughts be there.

I think it takes spme time to learn differentiate, but it's possible. You have to take a mental step back and notice what happens. If you feel this crazy urge you can make a decision to handle it as OCD, and say "ok OCD, you want me to do this, but than I choose to do this!" You break the pattern when you disobey the OCD demands. Sometimes it helps to just delay, you can let the thought about the TV and the soapbbe there without doing anything, and next day you can take a new decision.
