i don’t know if i necessarily identify with feeling like a robot, but it can definitely make me feel disconnected from reality. it feels like everyone else is living a different life than i am and i’m just not fully awake/alive.

I’m just now coming out of a bad spell with dpdr. I felt like I was completely detached from everyone and everything around me. I even wondered if my family members and friends were real sometimes. Or they would look unfamiliar to me. This brought on a great deal of anxiety and I would focus on it which only made it worse. Sometimes I still look at people and think of how weird humans are and how we just have these bodies operated by a brain. But it’s all getting better every day as the dpdr fades. Having ocd on top of it makes it much worse. I read some books and they all mentioned how the best way to deal with it and have it fade is to just keep living your life as you normally would. Stop googling, looking at forums, checking to see if you still feel that way. That’s what I did, and so far I’m slowly feeling more normal.

I know it’s hard. It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever gone through. But it does get better. Just keep living. Get outside and do things. It feels so weird and uncomfortable but it’s the only way out. I remember thinking I would never feel like myself again. But that isn’t true. Just keep pushing.

Also, I know googling and reading other peoples experiences online feels comforting in the moment... but try not to do it. Focusing on it and thinking about it all the time just makes it worse.

@ejh Right now my mind made me think of every word everybody says has a meaning or mean something

@danny199494 Yes. I think my OCD made my dpdr worse because of all the racing thoughts and hyper focus I put on it. I have all kinds of weird racing thoughts. A lot of people do. The difference with us is our ocd causes us to place meaning and importance on these thoughts where people without OCD don’t. So when I’m in a bad spell, I just try to remind myself that it’s my OCD causing it.

@ejh I was talking with my brother about some of the thoughts I have been having lately that cause me crazy anxiety. He was like “oh yeah I’ve thought about that” or would tell me different thoughts he had before. It’s not the thought, it’s how we respond to it.

@danny199494 I’ve had and still have all kinds of crazy thoughts. There have been times where I questioned if I even had OCD or if it was something more serious because I thought my thoughts were too insane to just be OCD. But that’s the trick it wants you to believe.

@ejh Is it possible to have a lot of ocd themes/images at the same time

@danny199494 I’ve had more than one theme before at the same time. I deal with some existential stuff too. I’ve just started being like “this probably is all just a simulation”, “I have no idea where life started or anything came from”.... but I just agree with it and keep living the best I can. It has faded a good bit recently.
