I’ve been taking it for about 3 months and it’s helps to a level but doesn’t eradicate the thoughts entirely. I was able to have the full effect of the Prozac in 2 weeks compared to the 4-6 weeks one has to wait since I’ve been taking Trileptal as well before. This allowed me to have a quick affect with the Prozac. When I took it I did have vivid dreams which wasn’t too bad but I always kept yawning which is common in antidepressants. Also the sexual side effects are real, me being a male it was hard to have a lasting erection at first while having sex with my girlfriend. My libido went down significantly but after a while it begins to get better and now I those sexual side effect wore off. Overall I believe that it’s good with helping my OCD but it does come with its side effects.
Thanks! Would you say it’s effect on ocd outweighs the side effects?
what dosage are you on?
@geo Indeed, although the side effects SSRIs come with is inevitable and can vary from one to another individual, I believe that the leverage one can have from the intrusive thoughts and compulsions and have that breathing room from them certainly outweighs the side effects.
@cwllms I’m taking 20 mg of Prozac and 750 mg of Trileptal daily
i’m new on it - ive only been on it for maybe 5 weeks? i’m on 10mg and it’s been okay, i got really anxious for the first few weeks which (as someone with GAD and OCD) wasn’t my favourite but honestly it’s been pretty good. i think i need to up my dose and i’m going to look at that but if it’s for OCD, ssris tend to take longer to work in reducing symptoms. if you’ve got any specific questions i’d be more than happy to answer x
Thank you! I’m just worried about it increasing my anxiety x would you say that you’d recommend it?
I take 20 mga and have been on it for about 6 weeks and definitely recommend! I feel a lot more clear headed and while I still of course have intrusive thoughts it makes it so I feel like I’m able to manage them and face them without totally loosing it. Only side effects I’ve experienced is decreased libido which is definately annoying but I’d take any day over dealing with OCD symptoms. Obviously it’s different for everyone but I for sure think it’s worth trying out!
That was your only side effect? No extra anxiety?
@kls323 I was going through a super hard time in my life when I began it so I was super anxious and don’t know if it was just life or the medicine that made me that way, but literally in a matter of weeks my anxiety went from like a 9 to a 3. It definately helped me, even if you feel a little worse at first give it a couple weeks before you really decide whether you want to keep taking it or not
@Kccc12 That's great! Glad your doing better
Does anyone have experience of fluoxetine for OCD? I know someone who is on it for anxiety and it’s made a huge difference so far, and I think I’d like to give it a go but I’d just be interested in hearing others’ experiences. I also have emetophobia so the side effects of nausea is putting me off a little.
Reviews on Prozac for OCD? My psychiatrist said she’s found Prozac works best for OCD but I’m curious what people who have taken it think
Dr has prescribed me Lexapro for ocd until I can get in to see a psych eventually, I’m about to start therapy in January aswell…. Was just wondering if anyone has had positive experiences with Lexapro? I know everyone is different, so maybe I could just ask for anyone who has found a medication that works for them, I just wanted to know a thorough explanation of how it makes you feel & how it has helped with your intrusions/ocd… I am quite nervous to try it because of side affects and fear it’s just another trial error phase…. I have quit smoking pot and going to stick with taking it same time every day where as in the past with 2 previous meds I was still smoking and not having a routine with when I took the meds. So obviously it didn’t work properly… can someone just give me a bit of hope, please?
