Meds have helped many, many people with OCD and may not be needed long term. It takes a strong person to recognize that a little boost from a med is sometimes needed during treatment.

Have you disclosed to your therapist the ongoing obsession that you have been experiencing?

My obsessions tend to change every week. I don't see her till thursday... I think I'm going to discuss meds with her some more. May need a little push.

@worryqueen It's good to hear that you are receptive to meds. Just remember, meds alone will not help you manage your OCD, but they can help facilitate treatment.

@Fear Strikes Out Yeah, I'll try to remember that. I just hope it will reduce some of the symptoms.

@worryqueen It should but some try to use meds as a replacement for treatment. The truth is that medication is just a band-aid on the symptoms. It's the ERP that will ultimately help you to manage the obsessions and compulsions.

Meds help a lot for me. I take Prozac and you can tell what a difference it makes when I’m not taking it compared to when I am. It is a good form of assistance. Just trial and error finding the one that works best. But don’t give that up

what dosage are you on?

I’m on the second highest doseage 60 mg. I don’t think I have to go to 80 mg. But it might work for you. 20 mg might. I am doing so much better because of it. I really pushed myself within the past 2 weeks to drop habits or cut down. And I just use meds. No therapy. It’s been 10 years in the making but you have to start somewhere

I’ve also been on it for the 10 years but stopped here and there. But I’m back on officially and I don’t want to be without it. I just woke up with the extra strength to fight

@cwllms The research indicates that meds are most effective for OCD at their highest dosages.

@cwllms It worked that way with me at 20 mg. And now being on 60 I can’t go lower it doesn’t help in a way I can notice. 60 is my perfect dose.
