@No_brainier99 I wanted to ask how you were diagnosed ? Cause I'm like 99% sure like I should be diagnosed with it too but I never know how to tell doctor how I feel except saying straight " hello I think I'm autistic " - I cant say it like that cause doctor will think I'm delusional or lying or I have hypochondria.

@No_brainier99 It’s just a difference in how your brain/mind works. Difference in communication (tendency to talk in paragraphs and to be highly analytical and statement-oriented, and some autistic people don’t talk at all), in how you communicate your feelings and wants/needs and how you detect feelings/wants/needs in others, difference in sensory processing and interacting with your environment (high sensitivity, orientation towards your environment and away from just the human world), difference in how your analytical capabilities work (it’s typical for autistic people to be able to hyper-focus on one interest), difference in how we self-regulate (for autistic people it often involves producing sensory stimulus in ourselves, like flapping our hands etc). The differences can come in many forms, and can be very subtle or overwhelmingly obvious. They do tend to be under-diagnosed in girls.

@Jamarceline Oof, that’s awful that your doctors are looking at you that way :-/ Can you ask to be referred to an expert on neurodivergence and processing disorders so that you can understand how your brain works better and try to meet your brain’s needs?

@No_brainier99 Some parent are too busy to notice child problems. Especially when they have more than one child. Or you're a single mom. For example my sister didn't notice her child has crooked knees.

I think diagnosis if to make you feel better . You cant cure autism but you can understand yourself better. Just like with OCD. You have to know you have OCD if you wanna help yourself .

Yeah, and it can help you better understand how to meet your own needs.

Also a diagnosis can help you find supports you need. For example I’m able to use my professional diagnosis to get accommodations I need in finding a job and at college. For instance I get extra time on tests because I struggle with time management due to my autism.

It actually depends. Many women is misdiagnosed or never diagnosed cause symptoms aren't obvious like in boys or something like that. And many people think autism is only when child doesnt speak and gets anger attacks

Yeah it really depends. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t.
