I guess sometimes I just wish my brain could function normally?

@Sunset1234 There is enormous variation in brain function. Instead of "normal", it tends to be more effective to focus on "health". Is this pattern interfering with your emotional well-being or functioning in your life?

YES!! i think i posted something about this yesterday. Like if there’s a movie i like and it’s good i’ll keep watching it and i’m unable to move on until i’m satisfied

or like if there’s a drink i like, when i don’t drink it i get like withdrawals?

So in your case, repeatedly doing the thing you enjoy is interfering with your life. I'm not sure that's OCD exactly, but it's a problematic pattern worth changing

@NOCD Advocate - Katie it sometimes interferes because i just want to move on from it but i’m unable to ;( but that’s just like a thing i do lol

@green bean Sorry, I accidentally deleted my comment. You're saying that you are trying to achieve a perfect just right feeling when you repeat activities you enjoy but can't transition to something else?

@NOCD Advocate - Katie yes that’s what i’m saying, but i don’t think this is an OCD thing that i know of?? i mostly struggle with needing reassurance from others that what i’m doing is right or OK

@green bean So searching for "just right" experiences is part of OCD. It's common to have multiple flavors of OCD at once

@NOCD Advocate - Katie i had no idea wow, this lifted a weight off my shoulders

@green bean Here's a fact sheet about just right OCD. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://iocdf.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Just-right-OCD-Fact-Sheet.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj4qK6k-sDqAhUXg3IEHUh4A2MQFjABegQICxAJ&usg=AOvVaw1hQeG9N1VFsHxBlZd2Kc6V it mostly discusses "not just right" experiences related to less complex actions, but the concept is the same for more elaborate ones, like watching a movie

@NOCD Advocate - Katie What you said about the just right feeling is exactly what I experience wow I have to have this feeling of everything going the way “it should” or else the experience doesn’t count or it’s not valid.

@Sunset1234 You accept nothing less than a perfect experience

@NOCD Advocate - Katie Yeah. I think it might be where a lot of my scrupulosity stems from ?

@Sunset1234 Do you want to say more about how they connect?

@NOCD Advocate - Katie I have to say prayers a certain way. If I don’t say them with enough faith then I do it again, or at least have the urge to do it again. Or if I feel I’ve made a mistake and confessed it and I’m forgiven, my ocd says I haven’t repented enough and I go to confess it again.

@Sunset1234 Again you need the perfect feeling
