I feel that, my family knows I have OCD, but I don't talk about it because I'm embarrassed and feel like they don't care, and I don't want them to have to drop everything to help me.

This is gonna sound tough, but it is not up to our friends and family to heal us. That is not fair to them, nor frankly, to us. Looking to them for answers is tantamount to us saying to ourselves that WE are not capable of doing this ourselves, ultimately. We are capable. And therapists are here to guide us. Our families and friends should be our refuge, and yes support, but they are not here to solve our issues.

I know what you mean. I slept over with my parents for 2 nights. My mom told me come back if Im not feeling well and I told her that I also need to learn to handle this being by myself. I also have my cat whom I can't just leave for days on end. But it did take about 4 days of constant panic attacks for me to reach out.

@luchalysol You know, sometimes emergencies require quick solutions. There’s nothing wrong with family helping in those situations, imo, but reassurance is what we need to avoid.

@smj89 Yes, Ill admit I was given some reassurance. On the second day, my thoughts and anxiety had decreased a good amount. But once I had to come home, my anxiety picked up again. I have to tackle this from all angles to fully recover.

@luchalysol It is incredibly hard. No doubt. I was telling my mom yesterday that I am starting with ERP on monday through NOCD, and she told me how proud she was of me for having the courage to do so. I certainly think moms know what they’re talking about. We are brave. All of us here surving, managing, and even thriving with this disorder. Your son and family love you even when you don’t always have that love for yourself. You’re worth the struggle, my friend. ✊

I hope the same for you, as well. Keep your eye out. I’m sure I’ll post how the sessiom went for me. Can I ask what part of the country/world you are in? Just out of curiosity.

Sometimes I feel so alone and helpless that I sit in the downstairs bathroom and cry. I feel like telling my wife about my thoughts only makes her feel worse and I don’t want to hurt her in helping me.

My parents know what my ocd is about, but they don't know about all of my thoughts. Im too embarrassed and ashamed to tell them. And I don't start treatment until the 20th
