It’s possible and I’m on my way out of OCD and becoming myself again but without the behaviors that led to OCD you can do this too

@Dom267 I know exactly how you feel but these thoughts aren’t you, they’re just thoughts, they say nothing about your true character, the more you analyze them or try to fight them back the more you become trapped in them, move on with your day without analyzing them, seek therapy and cut out compulsions slowly, but don’t stop doing what you were gonna do during the day even if it’s something that has become disrupted by ocd, ocd doesn’t deserve your attention nor respect, you deserve your attention and respect and so do those who love you, don’t let ocd and it’s lies tell you who you are, you know who you are, it’s not a quick fix but every day gets better and better the less you listen to the thoughts

@sesr How? What have you been doing?

@kls323 Therapy that taught me the tools to manage the anxiety and the thoughts, meds help to regulate mood and sleep, none are a quick fix and it still needs a lot of work on your part meaning you’re gonna have to stop compulsions and not fight anxiety but the more you do it the easier it gets, step back from the content and don’t identify with it, see it as ocd because that’s just what it is, refocus attention on other things and the more you do it the more you get used to it

@sesr How do you stop fighting the anxiety?
- Date posted

@kls323 You allow it to be and just feel it until it decreases on it own and it will, don’t do compulsions don’t wish anything away, you’re not becoming someone bad by allowing the anxiety to be, you won’t change afterwards, just let it be and while you’re resisting compulsions your ocd will throw at you so many more thoughts because it wants you to do a compulsion but remember ocd is what’s making you miserable and ruining your life so don’t reward it with a compulsion, be determined tell yourself this is good, I’m gonna feel this anxiety and uncertainty this is starving ocd this is good

I miss my old self too. I used to have such a full life. Now I feel everything good is being taken away from, especially those I love

No don’t you let OCD do that, fight for those you love, resist the compulsions that feed the monster that is trying to rob you of your peace and love, don’t let it pull you away from your life and happiness, it can be done and I’m proof of it, have faith seek therapy and anything you can to help you overcome this,

@sesr Thank you! I start therapy on the 20th. Im fighting with everything I can. I truly want to get better

@luchalysol That’s good I wish you the best, I started therapy almost three months ago and I’ve improved so much almost to the point of having that peace of mind and to be able to function regularly without having to do compulsions or fear, it’s not easy but the outcome is worth every second of hard work, if I can do it you can do it, discuss medication with the therapist, it helps, sleep is very important and focusing your attention on different things but most importantly have faith, God bless

@sesr What medicine are you on?

@sesr This gives me hope that things can get better. Im doing better today, just hoping I see improvement over the following days. Im not currently on any meds but Imma ask about them at my appt. I wish the severity of my thoughts begins to decrease. Ocd is playing all types of tricks on me over the last 1.5 weeks

@kls323 Seroquel it helps me regulate my mood and sleep, although I feel I can sleep without it now but you can’t just get off meds out of your own feelings, consult with doctor first

@luchalysol I know how you feel and yes have hope never lose faith and if you feel good today then today is the perfect day to start reducing compulsions start slow but once you start keep the momentum going, ocd is all lies don’t reward it with compulsions, starve it by not doing compulsions and just recognizing when you feel anxiety or fear, recognize the feelings and let them be, they don’t mean anything, you feel the anxiety because your brain is reacting to the thoughts as if they were real just like how the brain reacts to a movie, it’s not real but the brain doesn’t know that, you know that, I recommend searching videos about this on YouTube

@kls323 You’re very welcome I wish you the best don’t give up ever because when you get to feel better and recovered you will notice how silly the thoughts were or how much time you wasted over a lie, don’t be discouraged

@sesr Yes, Im trying to resist compulsions. Im at work right now so it has made it easier. Ocd is trying to get creative with the thoughts it throws at me. I brought some paper to draw at work during downtime. I did have a panic attack in the morning but Im trying to convince myself that no matter how disturbing my thoughts are, I have to remind myself that ocd is a liar. The movie analogy is a great one, it puts things in perspective

@luchalysol Yea I recommend looking up on YouTube John Glanvill his videos which the majority are on Patreon for only three dollars a month, helped me so much along with tons of other videos of people but careful not to fall into reassurance seeking which is a compulsion, ocd is a liar and it does get clever with the thoughts but thoughts come and go good and bad they’re just as invisible as they are powerless, they don’t run your life you do

@sesr Ill look him up. Ive also been watching patrick mcgrath and ali greymond and it has really helped me a lot. I do think that my own need for self improvement has become a compulsion without realizing it. That's gonna be a hard one to figure out. I was on a path to self improvement and boom, ocd hit. Ill do my best to keep going despite what ocd throws at me, the most recent ones have been very disturbing. I hate it

I won't. Im definitely thinking of reconnecting with god. I never stopped believeing, just wasn't something I connected with as much. I just don't want it to become a compulsion

@luchalysol I recommend it a lot, getting closer with God is what helped me recover and you don’t have to become a nun or anything like that but allow God to come back into your life, God loves you the way you are right now and not the way you will be later, God is your Heavenly Father always there to welcome you whenever you decide to come back to Him, don’t be scared, a prayer can be as simple as just a smile towards the sky or anytime you want

@sesr Im thinking it may be a good idea. I like your suggestion. I always pictured being close to god as those people who praise god in every sentence. Which I appreciate the admiration, but I do think it can get annoying at times if its all one talks about. We all connect to god differently of course but offering this suggestion really helps. I can start there.

Yea I mean it can turn into a compulsion if you let it just like with anything but know that God knows your heart and just be yourself the one God loves already , He doesn’t want you to be perfect He just wants you to know He loves you and that He’s always there with you, seek Him in any way that’s all that’s needed have faith which means go forward into uncertainty

@luchalysol That’s great news you should reconnect and like I said it doesn’t have to be this big thing, start out with a simple prayer before bed, the simpler the better
