@m0521 That's understandable. Exposure involves going towards unpleasant experiences that we usually worked hard to escape

@NOCD Advocate - Katie What does erp do? I feel like I have so many ocd themes and things I obsess over it would take forever. Ive been in therapy like I said, but never brought the idea up to her. I meet with her friday so I will then

@m0521 Intentional exposure creates opportunity for response prevention. Response Prevention is when we choose not to do our compulsions. Instead, we sit with the distress as it rises and falls naturally. Response Prevention is the part of therapy that rewires our brains. There are a variety of things we can learn through response prevention. Some are: -the outcome we fear doesn't happen -we don't experience as much distress as we anticipated -we can handle more distress than we thought -the distress fades on its own

@m0521 Just the same way it works with "regular" OCD. "pure o" still involved comoulsions. They are just less visible
