Ah!! I literally just clenched up reading that experience. I’m so sorry that advice was given to you. That was for sure an ocd compulsion. The good thing is that you can recognize it now, but I’m sorry it had to go that route...

Did I do a compulsion?

I think you do, your therapist shouldn't say that to you.

@sunflowers ^^^ yeah, I’m not an expert or anything but this sounds like ocd to me too

Yeah I'm diagnosed with OCD and it totally fit in my theme but ehen she said it I was so relieved that I could tell him that I didn't question it but in the end it totally fucks up my recovery

Is the therapist an OCD therapist? It really does not sound like it.

@Fear Strikes Out How did your BF respond?

@Fear Strikes Out I asked her if she had clients with ocd but she repeatedly said things that I found quite odd, like she said it could not be ocd because ocd is always about something happening in the future. But contamination fear or real event ocd always center around something you did in the past

@SoMi1907 She does not sound like a therapist trained in treating OCD. Does she use ERP? That should be the primary therapy treatment that she is using with you.

@SoMi1907 And she said that I just had to let the thoughts go. Which was the stupidest thing i heard

@Fear Strikes Out The first question that anyone who suspects they might have OCD to ask a therapist is, "Do you use ERP as the primary mode of treatment?" If they say they no or "What is ERP?," then it's time to hang up the phone or leave the session.

@Fear Strikes Out He was totally pissed. It really bothered him, which made me feel like it was the right thing to confess. But now...

@SoMi1907 Well, we all get thousands of thoughts each day. For the intrusive or unwanted thoughts that are creating unusually high anxiety for us, we sometimes do need to accept the uncertainty of our fears and let them go without trying to figure them out or overanalyzing them obsessively. That's where mindfulness techniques can be really helpful. Did she suggest how you might let the thoughts go while experiencing the anxiety that can come along with it?

@SoMi1907 I would find another therapist that understands OCD really well.

@Fear Strikes Out Yeah, it is difficult. She told me that with pure ocd, erp doesn't work.

@SoMi1907 What a big lie, erp works for OCD.

@SoMi1907 That is blatantly not true. I recommend finding a therapist who uses ERP for any theme of OCD,including Pure-O.

@SoMi1907 My old therapist told me to imagine a stop sign everytime I had an intrusive thought. ? If it was that easy I would have been cured forever ago.
