Honestly, at first it feels pretty miserable. We act better long before we feel better. Even once we are far into recovery and most of the OCD has faded, we still experience uncomfortable emotions because that is part of life. On a positive note, I feel a ton of pride for what I've accomplished and overcome Remember, recovery is a process, not a destination

You should feel unbelievably proud even if it’s hard to repair sometimes

I agree that OCD recovery is an ongoing journey. I even had to adjust to life of not doing compulsions in the beginning. But, the feelings of liberation and the empowerment I enjoyed from recognizing that I am the one that gets to decide whether or not to perform a compulsion was when I really began to soar. ✈

@Fear Strikes Out How did you achieve recovery? ERP with a therapist? I don't have one where I live and I cannot get one through nocd.

@Sunflower 1234 Yes, I had a therapist. For myself, I needed the guidance of a competent therapist trained using ERP. At the time I began therapy, I was highly motivated to learn how to get my OCD under control. Would you see an OCD therapist virtually who is licensed in your state?

@Fear Strikes Out I would have loved to but I live in Wisconsin and apparently in Wisconsin legally I can only see a therapist that is licensed in the state of Wisconsin. Happy for you.

@Sunflower 1234 Are you familiar with Rogers Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin?

@Fear Strikes Out No not at all. I just googled them. Do they offer erp for OCD? Have you heard good things about them?

@Sunflower 1234 Rogers is one of the best for OCD treatment with various levels of treatment programs. You are fortunate to have them in your state. Lots of locations in Wisconsin, too.

@Sunflower 1234 Well, I meant someone at Rogers to assist and guide you with its OCD programs. Are you also looking for a therapist outside of the Rogers programs in WI?

@Sunflower 1234 All therapists at Rogers will be trained and use ERP.

@Fear Strikes Out Thanks. Appreciate your help. Would you say you are totally recovered from OCD? How much does it still affect your life? I feel emotional tonight feeling like I LL always have OCD in some shape and form. ?

@Sunflower 1234 OCD never truly goes away, but I would say that I am at least 90% recovered meaning I have the therapeutic tools to manage OCD now and into the future.

@Fear Strikes Out I called Rogers hospital. They only offers intense OCD treatment (3 hours/ day and 5 days/week). I won't be able to afford it. I have high deductible insurance. Looks like I LL have to do erp on my own.

Like Katie said, it’s a journey not a destination. You will have good days and not so good days. Now that I’m nearing the end of my ERP sessions, I feel stronger and more at peace.
