@Peridottttt It's probably a conservative estimate.

@Ben84 Most people wait like 10 years ish to get diagnosed so I'm sure the numbers are an estimate

I believe it’s 1 in 100 adults who have OCD in America, and I’ve also seen stats showing that 1 in 40 children have OCD, so I’m not sure. It’s about 2% of the U.S. that has OCD........but also, I imagine there are A LOT of cases that go unreported because of how shameful it can make someone feel.

How do you calculate 3% of us population into 1 in how many?

@Peridottttt I’m really not sure, it’s been a while since I took a math class?. I’m most commonly seeing that 1 in 100 adults have it, but I’m also seeing stats that show 1 in 40, it just depends on which website you look at. It’s supposedly around 3 million people total who have OCD

@catmom Seems common

@Peridottttt I would say it is, I’ve met 2 people with OCD around me (real OCD, not just using it as a figure of expression)...I would have never known they hadn’t told me. Same with me, people I went to school with never knew how much I was struggling, I can’t imagine how many other people are discreet in public about their mental illness but struggling greatly mentally.

@Peridottttt 3% means 3 people out of 100. Any number % means that number out of 100. Because 100% is completely. That’s where the “keep it ?” came from, like 100%, or completely, legit. (Sorry, I’m a wannabe mathlete. I’m an artist who really misses tutoring math through calculus.)

@Peridottttt 1% is 1 in 100 so 3% is 3 in 100 and therefore 1 in 33 (ish)

@Ben84 Idk the person above me that we were in a convo said 1 in 40 so that’s kinda rare

@Peridottttt Medically speaking, I think that's considered common.

@Ben84 But if it’s 1 in 100?

@Peridottttt I'm not sure, but when I Google OCD information from the Mayo Clinic lists it as common.

@Ben84 I just never met one in real life so

@Peridottttt I've only known a kid who has it. He has it in the more stereotypical sense. How many people in your life know you have OCD?

@Ben84 Bitch none

@Peridottttt Exactly ☺. No one knows you have OCD and you don't know they have OCD.

@Ben84 Oh they know I have ocd they don’t

@Peridottttt Something may have got lost in translation ☺. Are you saying you don't believe anyone around you has OCD?
- Date posted
- 5y
@Ben84 No they told me they don’t have ocd
- Date posted
- 5y
@Peridottttt some people don’t know it’s ocd - some people would rather admit anything else before admitting they go to sleep terrified they’re a pedophile. it’s a very personal thing and while i’m completely open with my diagnosis - many aren’t. what i’m trying to say is you can’t judge these stats by how many people you know x
