Good luck!!! You got this!!! 💪 they’ve heard it all. Don’t hold back. The more you divulge the better they can help you:

I hope it goes well! It might be a good idea to tell the therapist up front about your tendency? My therapist learned over time that I underreport my distress.

Alyosha, thanks for the advice, I sent her a message earlier stating such. I agree it's important for them to know. My previous therapist never really pushed me to talk about it so I was like yeah, I'm feeling better, but in the end I hadn't really made as much strides as I would've liked. While he was trained in OCD and ERP I think he thought I was doing better than I actually was.

I ll have one in a few hours. I am terrifies. I even had a dream about it last night. 😄 I hope my therapist is good. It is so hard to find a good therapist.

@Sunflower 1234 I’m so sorry! I would feel so hurt and unseen 😞. Your disappointment is completely understandable.

@Sunflower 1234 Man. I want to bombard NOCD with messages now in your behalf. But I won’t. If there’s anything I can do, please let me know. Seriously, I will research to help you find a therapist if that’s helpful. I’ve been hurt by therapists before. It can be really difficult to put yourself out there and try again. I hope you do, though it’s understandable if you want it to be someone not on NOCD.

@Alyosha (I mean, I won’t bombard them because I doubt you’d want that.)

@Alyosha I really think he is a fraud. I googled him. He is supposed to own and run a mental health clinic but there is no working phone number or website associated with his clinic. That is sketchy. I contacted noco. They are clueless as I am of what happened. They need to do better background check on the therapists they hire. I think he is very new to them. I might be his first client. He is definitely a fraud.

@Alyosha Thank you for being mad on my behalf. That is so sweet of you. I am tired of looking for a good therapist. I will try again maybe in a few days when I feel better. There are a lot of unethical people out there. I still think nocd is a good organization. They just need to background check their therapists better.

@Sunflower 1234 Your fairmindedness is impressive. Again sorry this happened. I hope you feel better soon ❤️

@Alyosha Thank you! You are so kind. Some people can be so unethical. I have a mild level of moral perfection ocd. At least that makes me more ethical than a lot of these people. 😄

I had my appointment and my therapist seems super nice. Obviously OCD still yells doubts at me, but I think its going to be a good fit.

@Sunflower 1234 Thanks sunflower 1234, but still sorry for your experience. Did NOCD give you another potential therapist

@kkny No I live in Wisconsin. That guy is the only therapist they have who is licensed in Wisconsin. I might have to find a therapist outside if nocd.

@sunflower1234 you got this. I hear ya though. I don't feel I've had a really good fit with any of my therapists so far (2 that I've tried). I'm hoping NOCD will be different.

It is going to be weird sharing my OCD thoughts (my darkest and deepest secrets) to a stranger so I can relate to you. I hope the therapist will be good and make me feel comfortable to share.

@Sunflower 1234 I hear ya. If you haven't already I encourage you to write down the things OCD has taken from you and the values you now want to live by. Review those before your appointment. I know I have been keeping those fresh in my mind as I continue on this journey towards wholeness and healing.

@kkny What criteria would you use to determine if someone is a good ocd therapist?
- Date posted
- 5y
@Sunflower 1234 That's a great question. I think a lot of it comes from their knowledge and expertise in understanding OCD, their modalities as far as therapy goes (ERP, etc...), and their experience treating patients with OCD. Does their current caseload have a good amount of OCD patients, etc... From there I think it's fit. My counselor in the first session made me feel very comfortable and open sharing some stuff I wouldn't normally share with a stranger. For me that was important as in the past I haven't felt "comfortable" doing that

I was different I wrote all my stuff down because I was fearful that it wouldn’t be OCD. My wife told me to throw it away lol. Just be open about it all!
- Date posted

@JohnS that's awesome. I thought about writing it all down too, lol. Not because I don't think it's OCD, but because of worry of leaving something out then not getting better. I wonder why they call it the doubting disease, lol.

My therapist never showed up to the virtual appointment. I don't blame it on nocd. But it is so disappointing. I have been preparing for this meeting. And I have been anxious for the last 12 hours for nothing.

Sunflower 1234 that is extremely disappointing. I know how anxious preappointments can be. If there is a silver lining you were able to deal with the anxiety. Hope you get some answers though on why they never showed up.

I suspect he is not legit. I googled him and I found some sketchy stuffs.

You are right. The positive is that I could handle the anxiety.

I hope your appointment will go a lot better. I am sure my case is the exception not the rule. This guy just started with nocd. I might be his first patient. Maybe he is not legit at all.

@Sunflower 1234 Who was your therapist supposed to be?
- Date posted

@Freemeofocd I don't know if I can tell you or not. I don't want to ever be sued for defamation. 😐 But he is a new therapist for people who live in Wisconsin. I might be his first client. If you don't live in Wisconsin you won't have to deal with him.

@Sunflower 1234 Ah okay. I’m in California. I’m sorry that happened to you 😔 I would be very disappointed. I’ve been waiting over a month for my appt I would be devastated if something like this happened!

@Freemeofocd Oh mine. That is a long time. I really hope it won't happen to you. At least I just had to wait about a week and a half for this fraudulent guy.

@Freemeofocd Nocd needs to do better back ground check on their therapists for sure.

@Sunflower 1234 Yeah, sorry to hear they and you got duped. Definitely try again when you get the energy. You can do this and it's worth it for you and for those you care about.
- Date posted

@kkny I will probably try again. For now I am just feeling emotionally drained. I ll probably just get some ice cream and call it a day.
- Date posted
- 5y
That's odd that NOCD would have someone that's not legit, but I guess it happens. This is probably especially true given they are growing quickly. I would definitely reach out to NOCD and let them know if you haven't already. But yes great job handling it. I'm an hour from my apt and I keep telling myself to remember it's always worse in my mind then in reality.

You will do great. You seem to have good perspective on a lot of things. I hope you LL have the best therapist.
