Haven’t tried SNRIs, but for me what helped when I tried an SSRI and it stopped working after a while is adding a low dose antipsychotic in addition to the SSRI. I’m not a doctor though, and usually it’s best to talk with doctors about medications as everyone is different. I’m definitely kind of a “different” case too because I’ve been on SSRIs for autism symptoms since I was 4, way before I had ocd. When I got ocd we just switched what one I was using and increased the dose, then added abilify. Anyway my point was you have lots of options. Also, are you doing erp alongside medication?

If SSRI’s aren’t working well, you may want to try a different class of drugs. I had also been on various SSRI’s without a lot of success. My psychiatrist did genetic testing, and we found out that genetically, I wasn’t likely to be very responsive to SSRI’s. I tried Pristiq which was amazing! Unfortunately, it did stop working as well after awhile, so I have switched again, but at least I know I probably don’t need to bother with any other SSRI’s.

Yes, I am. I tried ability and it made me so restless. I’m hoping I just need to give the Prozac more time

@anonymous pristiq came up as a good option on my genetics testing so I may try that but I’m scared that it may cause more anxiety than help. How was it for u? Did u have any side effects??

It was like a miracle drug for me....I felt amazingly better at least for awhile. I should have hit the ERP hard while I was doing better; I know that now. It didn’t cure my OCD, but it brought me out of an almost suicidal depression. I didn’t have significant side effects from it unless I missed a dose, then I felt truly awful. Everyone is different though: a drug that works really well for one person may do nothing for the next. Sometimes you have to try quite a few drugs before you find the one that works for you.

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.

Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?

Hello! I am trying out and looking to partake in therapy, but I literally don’t know what is good. So could use some personal perspectives. Thanks
