ERP therapy is all about the thoughts and compulsions we've developed over time. Sure, some of us don't like to touch things or have them out of symmetry, but it's the brain at work there, too. It's okay that your therapist doesn't know everything, but you'll benefit from having a therapist trained to help with OCD.

I do not know where to find one, to be honest, and that will be another work of finding. Also, earlier was supposed to be a discussion for a referral to another therapist but she said that not many conduct ERP --- or not common here. Plus she also mentioned about exposing yourself to the trigger when it's your thoughts. She can say those though but I don't think she knows various techniques upon conquering obsessive thoughts either.

@beautifulmind You can reach out to a therapist through this app. Every therapist with NOCD is trained in erp therapy. If they don't take your insurance they have payment plans.

@beautifulmind Information alone is enough for me I guess, and even not a therapy with a non-OCD specialist ---- I can read some articles I found here and have discussions

@Dre83 Well, I can check for those soon --- I was thinking of that too. But I am quite shy to talk lol. English is not my first language too. But thank you for all the help! For now, I will sleep since it is 5:38 am here and I have not slept yet. Thank you all again :)

Yeah erp therapy is the only therapy to help us. If your therapist is telling you that its time to change. I start my erp very soon.

She's actually telling me that ERP is not that needed since my compulsion is mental or mostly obsessions --- there is not an object to be exposed to

@beautifulmind Dude every OCD specialist I’ve heard or seen online all say run to the hills when they say this. Exposure and response prevention is the only genuine way for us. Mental compulsions are only different in the idea that they’re in our head. The way they are dealt with and approached are the same regardless. Consider seeing a specialist.

@beautifulmind Run! She will not help you. ERP is the only effective way. I don't want your ocd to get worse for own sake honey, and she might do that. Please if you can find an OCD specialist who actually knows how to treat people properly. Be safe hun

You got so many good advices here. It is best if you can find an ocd therapist. If not, I would recommend the book freedom from OCD by Jonathan Grayson. I have been using the book to do erp on my own and I have had success. I have pure o too
