Ok I know you may have heard that each person's experience is different because of our individual body chemistry. I understand your reluctance. I was on Prozac and had the same outcome as you but my psychiatrist prescribed Effexor XR and Trintellix, they seem to be ok but I'm not at the full possible effect period yet (6-8 weeks I believe). You may not need medication, I wish I had tried ERP before I got the prescription but I've noticed that my mood is stabilized and the thoughts aren't as frequent now and aren't as powerful. I've been working with a NOCD therapist for three weeks and it has helped considerably. It's hard work but worth it. You can do this!

@Dre83 Yes I'm 40 I think it's just how your body reacts. I don't like meds at all, I didn't like taking pain relievers so that was the first pill I ever had to take and my head and body went haywire, ended up in the pscyh ward for an evening until they realized it was the medicine.š©

I wouldn't wish anyone else to go through what so many of us are going through and just think how many are out here with this disorder that can't find the help, afford it or so ashamed they'll just suffer because our society has made us feel like mental disorders are so much different or even worse than any other than malfunctioning organ in our bodies. I just thank God that he gave revelation to scientists and doctors to find the answers. I see why so many that have overcome this reach back to grab the rest of us. I've been trying to help others as I'm still in this.

Yes, the stigma has to be changed. And yeah I can't imagine not being able to not have the help readily available to me. Yeah I want to help people too once I'm recovered i just feel even more for those that do suffer with mental illness. My wife suffers from major depression and I understand the struggle even more now. And yes thank the Lord we have doctors and scientists who understand this.

Omgoodness my husband has OCD as well and just lived with his compulsions for many years and thought that it was just a part of his life, when I found out what was happening to me and got help, I realized what was happening with him. Heās had it for years and through me being transparent about what the thoughts were with him, he decided to seek help as well now. I feel empathy because he suffered for so long and couldnāt feel comfortable enough to share it. Weāve grown closer through this.

I believe I would, the medicine she prescribed for me though is for long term and I heard it's heck to wean off of. I wish I had known my options. I don't like feeling like I have to depend on these just to function but it's working so clearly there was something that I needed. š I really hope you stay the course if you ever need to just vent, rant or shout we will all be here! We're stronger together! We have this thing, it doesn't have us! We make the rules to this thing

This is kind of a weird question, but I recently increased my SSRI dosage and have experienced tremendous relief. It has quieted my intrusive thoughts so much and my compulsions are no longer as all-consuming. However, I donāt want to be on this high of a dosage forever and know that medication alone shouldnāt be my only fix. Iām seeing a new psychiatrist on Wednesday and am wondering if the recent decrease in frequency of my symptoms will be a bar to my getting ocd treatment? In other words, if in this present moment Iām doing better, but up until a few days ago my compulsions were taking up pretty much every moment of my waking day, will I still be classified as having ocd? I start getting worried when I feel better that I donāt actually have ocd and just use it as a defense mechanism to avoid consequences of my actions/Iām secretly a terrible person

I am having a really hard time with ocd and anxious thoughts and feeling extremely uneasy. I'm home alone today so it's really easy for me to get stuck in my thoughts. I'm on day 4 of prozac. I felt like yesterday I had a period of time of about 30 minutes where I felt really focused and like the anxiety lifted completely. But then an obsession started and it brought me right back down. Hopefully I feel relief again today. I'm going to go get some house work done to take my mind off of things. Does anyone have any first hand experiences with prozac? How long until you felt any relief? Any really bad side effects? Any unforseen pluses? Much appreciated.

Has anyone had success treating their OCD without medication and solely ERP or non-medicinal methods. I have pretty severe OCD and just about every sub-type, but Iāve been on various meds (SSRI & SNRIs) for going on 8 years and have never found one that truly relieves me of symptoms. Iām looking to see if itās worth continuing with the side effects I experience (mostly mild) or if there are alternatives that could work for me. Low key tired of constantly changing meds in an attempt to find something that works when maybe medicine isnāt the route for meā¦
