Ok I know you may have heard that each person's experience is different because of our individual body chemistry. I understand your reluctance. I was on Prozac and had the same outcome as you but my psychiatrist prescribed Effexor XR and Trintellix, they seem to be ok but I'm not at the full possible effect period yet (6-8 weeks I believe). You may not need medication, I wish I had tried ERP before I got the prescription but I've noticed that my mood is stabilized and the thoughts aren't as frequent now and aren't as powerful. I've been working with a NOCD therapist for three weeks and it has helped considerably. It's hard work but worth it. You can do this!

@Dre83 Yes I'm 40 I think it's just how your body reacts. I don't like meds at all, I didn't like taking pain relievers so that was the first pill I ever had to take and my head and body went haywire, ended up in the pscyh ward for an evening until they realized it was the medicine.😩

@LadyThomas40 So do you think you would be just as fine with have just doing the erp alone. Yeah, I've known or heard of people where they don't like the meds at all.

I wouldn't wish anyone else to go through what so many of us are going through and just think how many are out here with this disorder that can't find the help, afford it or so ashamed they'll just suffer because our society has made us feel like mental disorders are so much different or even worse than any other than malfunctioning organ in our bodies. I just thank God that he gave revelation to scientists and doctors to find the answers. I see why so many that have overcome this reach back to grab the rest of us. I've been trying to help others as I'm still in this.

Yes, the stigma has to be changed. And yeah I can't imagine not being able to not have the help readily available to me. Yeah I want to help people too once I'm recovered i just feel even more for those that do suffer with mental illness. My wife suffers from major depression and I understand the struggle even more now. And yes thank the Lord we have doctors and scientists who understand this.

Omgoodness my husband has OCD as well and just lived with his compulsions for many years and thought that it was just a part of his life, when I found out what was happening to me and got help, I realized what was happening with him. He’s had it for years and through me being transparent about what the thoughts were with him, he decided to seek help as well now. I feel empathy because he suffered for so long and couldn’t feel comfortable enough to share it. We’ve grown closer through this.

I believe I would, the medicine she prescribed for me though is for long term and I heard it's heck to wean off of. I wish I had known my options. I don't like feeling like I have to depend on these just to function but it's working so clearly there was something that I needed. 🙂 I really hope you stay the course if you ever need to just vent, rant or shout we will all be here! We're stronger together! We have this thing, it doesn't have us! We make the rules to this thing

Has anyone been prescribed Escitalopram for their OCD? And if so what was your experience like. I just got into my 2nd week of it and got bumped up to 20mg. Today has been weird because my anxiety is gone which has been for a bit but the thoughts seem stronger today especially the Harm related ones. Almost like commands now. Can anyone relate?

I used to get very irritable and have severe ocd, while I have only been on Prozac 3 weeks at only 10mg then recently 20mg. I have noticed that although my intrusive thoughts are still there, it’s more manageable like 30% more manageable and I’m hoping with time and if needed an increase of my dosage it could go to 50-90% more manageable. Anyone experience with ssri please share your experience dosage, name, how long it ok to kick in and how is your ocd now on the meds? Thank you

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
