Ok I know you may have heard that each person's experience is different because of our individual body chemistry. I understand your reluctance. I was on Prozac and had the same outcome as you but my psychiatrist prescribed Effexor XR and Trintellix, they seem to be ok but I'm not at the full possible effect period yet (6-8 weeks I believe). You may not need medication, I wish I had tried ERP before I got the prescription but I've noticed that my mood is stabilized and the thoughts aren't as frequent now and aren't as powerful. I've been working with a NOCD therapist for three weeks and it has helped considerably. It's hard work but worth it. You can do this!
Yeah, I'm a little nervous but I want to get better soooo badly and I dont want to take meds if I dont have too
@Dre83 I understand. Keep up that determination to recover, it'll help for sure.
I heard they can raise suicide thoughts in people under 25. Thats scary. Im glad you made it through that.
Thanks! Thing is I'm 36. But I'm wanna give the erp its shot. Hope to get on the therapist schedule this week to start.
@Dre83 Yes I'm 40 I think it's just how your body reacts. I don't like meds at all, I didn't like taking pain relievers so that was the first pill I ever had to take and my head and body went haywire, ended up in the pscyh ward for an evening until they realized it was the medicine.š©
@LadyThomas40 So do you think you would be just as fine with have just doing the erp alone. Yeah, I've known or heard of people where they don't like the meds at all.
@Dre83 Thats my fear of getting on a med. I have kids can not get suicidal. Ive only heard good things about erp.
@kls323 Yes, I have a son too and I want to be around as long as possible for him and my wife.
I wouldn't wish anyone else to go through what so many of us are going through and just think how many are out here with this disorder that can't find the help, afford it or so ashamed they'll just suffer because our society has made us feel like mental disorders are so much different or even worse than any other than malfunctioning organ in our bodies. I just thank God that he gave revelation to scientists and doctors to find the answers. I see why so many that have overcome this reach back to grab the rest of us. I've been trying to help others as I'm still in this.
Yes, the stigma has to be changed. And yeah I can't imagine not being able to not have the help readily available to me. Yeah I want to help people too once I'm recovered i just feel even more for those that do suffer with mental illness. My wife suffers from major depression and I understand the struggle even more now. And yes thank the Lord we have doctors and scientists who understand this.
Omgoodness my husband has OCD as well and just lived with his compulsions for many years and thought that it was just a part of his life, when I found out what was happening to me and got help, I realized what was happening with him. Heās had it for years and through me being transparent about what the thoughts were with him, he decided to seek help as well now. I feel empathy because he suffered for so long and couldnāt feel comfortable enough to share it. Weāve grown closer through this.

I believe I would, the medicine she prescribed for me though is for long term and I heard it's heck to wean off of. I wish I had known my options. I don't like feeling like I have to depend on these just to function but it's working so clearly there was something that I needed. š I really hope you stay the course if you ever need to just vent, rant or shout we will all be here! We're stronger together! We have this thing, it doesn't have us! We make the rules to this thing
Thanks so much! Never been through such a battle in my life.
I have harm ocd it just sucks so I have a lot of mental compulsions and reassurance seeking.
Yes, same here with sexual orientation and POCD so nobody knows unless I tell them. No external compulsions.
@LadyThomas40 I constantly find myself watching podcasts though just to inform myself and ask questions to the experts.
@LadyThomas40 Do find the podcast helpful or is it reassurance seeking for you? Which podcast to you watch?
@Dre83 For Information to help in my recovery that's why I ask questions that may not get answered in course of the hour therapy session
What are everyoneās experiences using SSRIs for OCD? Iām not currently medicated and was curious if they actually help.
I was recently diagnosed with OCD. Probably more along the lines more of Pure O. . . Very very distressing intrusive thoughts and fears. I can see how it's likely been an issue most of my adult life but really exacerbated lately. It's exhausting. Has caused a significant disruption in my life and it Feels like a constant mental battle. Has anyone had luck with medication? I was recommended for lexapro. Tried it for 3 days and felt awful. Is the ERP therapy usually effective without medication? I'm on the wait list for a nocd therapist as they say they don't currently have any available in my state.
Hi I have tired erp therapy not for long enough tho helped to a certain extent but has anyone tried any medications that actually work ? I have never tried any and just want to see if anyoneās notice good amount of difference with their ocd /rocd once taking medication ?
