I think there is a balance that can be achieved and you just need to work with your therapist on it. My therapist asked me to do something and I honestly wasn't ok with it and I told her so. I talked with my wife who agreed that it was further than we were comfortable with. We worked on some different exposures. In the end after some more discussion I worked with my therapist to figure out what my core fears were and in the end the exposure wouldn't have really hit on it anyway. I read a good article by Jon Hershfield where he said the goal isn't to get a Christian to sin or go against their religion, but to understand the gray areas and operate within them. In the end, obviously it's your individual decision. I would recommend prayer and study of the Bible, talking with a trusted spiritual advisor, and working with your therapist.

I understand how you feel but know that God understands what you’re doing

I guess so. I still don't think he would want me to cuss though. I guess I could avoid that exercise and do others

@anyonymous I’m Catholic, I suggest speaking to a religious leader that understands what OCD is and I also suggest looking up Scrupulous Anonymous online it helped me a lot and answered a lot of my questions on what to do regarding erp also speaking to my confessor

@anyonymous Yes I'm a Christian too. I worry about doing my ERP. the thought of offending God worries me so much... I'm really not getting to grips with this but, sometimes, I think 'the worry about this and the distress this is making me feel, I've felt it thousands of times, I think this is OCD, and I definitely want OCD to decrease so I'm going to have to try this right now..' The hard part is not engaging whatever I do to usually soothe the anxiety. Jesus knows the struggle you go through every day.. One step at a time 😊

@anyonymous It is really really rough. It's like the closest thing to you that is meant to bring comfort and peace, instead brings fear and anxiety.

@ButterflyStar Yes. Sometimes I can feel God and feel like I will be okay and other times I feel like I will go insane and like I will or even want to go crazy which is so scary. Hopefully one day I will be able to manage this

@anyonymous I want to find the right balance with treatment. The #1 thing that has helped me is knowing that God knows my heart. And God knows the difference between what's in my heart and what my brain thinks without me wanting to think those things.

@Ambar Yes I am trying to realize this too
