Perhaps educating yourself on the disorder can help. I’ve linked to some books below. One is, in particular, about being the loved one of someone with OCD. For me it was a relief to realize I had ocd, because its treatable, and because anxiety therapy wasn't working and I didnt know why I was obsessed and terrified of hurting myself for no reason. I was like OH WAIT I CAN DO THIS 😂

How old is your son? You can send him articles on ocd themes and proof that ocd is very common and lots of people deal with it and have bad thoughts to, but the thoughts don't mean anything. And tell him that ocd is treatable too

I'm 19 and I struggle with pure ocd. Its scary but he's not alone.

What theme is his ocd? Pure ocd is a type of ocd but it just means his obsession and compulsions are in his head mostly. What are his obsessions? Contamination? Harm?

@Anonymous You’re being a good mom trying to help him out and recognizing a real disorder. Some families don’t want to talk about it so just realize that that’s great that you’re doing everything you can for him. A good websites is made of millions.com I read something from someone’s story once on there that helped me with my own ocd... the person wrote “it’s not my fault I have this disorder but it is absolutely my responsibility to manage it.” That was powerful to recognize because it helped me come to terms with it, not blame myself for it, and realize I have to live with it and work with it but I could still have a normal life. I think one day he will have a moment like that in the beginning with ocd it’s hard to accept
