It's really great that you are realizing that. OCD communities online tend to follow this pattern. Unless they are heavily moderated (I have never seen one that is) they can just become a whirlpool of obsessing and worrying that makes people worse.

Yep. Decided it was time to give it up when yesterday I posted I was having some intrusive thoughts that I was fearing were turning into delusions, because of my new theme, and they just downright said “well delusions are a sign of psychosis just so you know”. Just complete 0 knowledge of how OCD works and how intrusive thoughts can feel real. I realize maybe it’s time to step away after that because I don’t want to be misinformed by the wanna-be therapists on here.

@charleejadeg Most of the people on here are really sick and very misinformed. I run into people who haven't even figured out the difference between obsessions and compulsions. I'm in recovery and enjoy being able to give tips and share ERP ideas with others of the same mindset, but that doesn't seem to be what this community is focused on. I don't know how serious lockdown has been in your area, but when you get a chance, an OCD support group run by a specialist can be a much healthier community that will push you to be better instead of worse <3

@Emma I love that. I wasn’t sure if OCD support groups were good at all because of my experience with forums but I’m definitely going to check it out! Also I agree, I find myself commenting “it may or may not be true, but you must accept that” every time. I don’t think people realize rumination is a huge compulsion and obsession, and I find most of the nitty gritty that people post are simply just ruminations. I hope NOCD can find a way to have a better moderating system.

I totally get this. Some of my newest compulsions have started after I've heard someone else say that's how they compulse. The brain just loves to soak in suggestions. Wishing you well

Right? It adds to my obsessions and to be honest. I think the forum page is great in so many ways, but bad in many others. I don’t think we need to be in a constant state of being reminded of others symptoms in order to overcome it. It’s a healthy balance between the two of extreme triggers and having a sense of community.
