I’d also recommend getting an ocd workbook and trying out some erp on your own! Here’s the one the ocd center I go to recommends: https://www.amazon.com/Mindfulness-Workbook-OCD-Overcoming-Compulsions/dp/1608828786 I’ve also heard good things about this one: https://www.amazon.com/Overcoming-Unwanted-Intrusive-Thoughts-Frightening/dp/1626254346 Come up with a list of triggers, arrange them from least to most distressing, and get to work! Some exposure ideas to get you started: - write the word “kill” on a post it and carry it around in your wallet - record yourself saying “kill” on your phone over and over for a minute. Listen to it 3x a day. - create a Pinterest board of different knives - practice holding a knife for 5 seconds, then 10, then 30, then a minute, etc - sleep with a knife in your bedside table - chop vegetables alone - chop vegetables with someone in the room - chop vegetables with someone standing right next to you You’ll have to learn to expose yourself to these properly without performing compulsions of course. And these books should help you identify what those compulsions are. Just allow intrusive thoughts to happen, breath, accept that they’re there and let the anxiety rise and leave on its own when it’s ready. When you practice this consistently, you’ll train your brain to handle these triggers and learn that you’re capable of observing these intrusive thoughts and dealing with the anxiety they provoke. Here’s a good article on self directed erp: https://iocdf.org/expert-opinions/expert-opinion-self-directed-erp/

@Anna:) Yes I have harm OCD towards my son. So at the beginning my thoughts would say “kill son” over and over and over. It wouldn’t leave my head for like 2 weeks. It was miserable.

@Anna:) No, I was prescribed medicine but I also had somatic OCD and literally panic about taking medicine. I have a fear that taking meds will make me lose control.

I can not afford ERP unfortunately, what do they do in your sessions

@Anna:) You can get self help books that guide you how to do ERP. You basically make a list of triggers from highest to lowest and slowly expose yourself to each fear until the anxiety lessens.

@Kdeemz And you have to let the anxiety lessen without doing compulsions.
