My meds are the best thing that happened for me since my ocd spiked. I’ve always been able to deal with ocd without meds, but I wasn’t being able to this time. I really wish I had decided to start medication sooner. I had no side effects (I’m sleeping a lot nowadays, but I’ve always been a sleepy girl and OCD had taken this away from me). I didn’t put on weight, I didn’t feel weird. I just feel like myself again. And though I still have thoughts and doubts, I also have hope. When I look back to the way I was before, I can see a HUGE improvement. So, my advice is, if you think you’re doing fine without meds, it’s ok. I’ve lived 17 years without meds, but I could manage, I could function. But if you thinking it is too much and you need help, go for it. I was in such a bad place that I thought “no one expects someone with high blood pressure to get better by themselves. So why do I feel like I should be better by myself?”. And that was the best decision of my life. If you have doubts about the meds, feel free to ask me

I am super thankful for my medication, I would be a lot worse off without it. but everyone is different. This is a true medical condition. Just like treating any other illness.

I know it is. But they are not meant for lifelong use so either way OCD must be dealt with thru therapy as well

That's why I refuse to take them. They are not a cure. They may take the edge off but once u stop them it all comes flooding back. It is possible to manage this crap without meds. Its alot of work tho but it can be done.

I’d like to know how it is as well, I’ve considered medication at times but I’ve heard of the potential side effects and it worries me

I know you’re not asking me. But! I feel like they first decreased my appetite, and then once I was feeling happy again and more like myself, my appetite followed. But I feel like that’s just because I was happier overall. I could hardly eat before I started my medication

I am on Zoloft. Started at 25, then went to 50, and I just upped to about 100 a week ago. I’m liking it a lot. Max dosage is usually what’s recommended for people with ocd. It’s proven to be most effective. And max dosage for Zoloft is 200. Idk if I will venture that far but we will see.
