They help to reduce your compulsions and some of your thoughts and you might still have some compulsions still. My anxiety has completely gone but when you first start medication you might find that your ocd and anxiety will be heightened then after 4-6 weeks you will start to feel a decrease of anxiety or your anxiety will completely disappear. Hope this helps.

This. My 2-4 weeks were pure hell... Not trying to scare anyone on here but holy crap I never felt that much intense anxiety and hopelessness in my life within the on boarding of Zoloft. Everyone reacts different..I had the worst with 25mg

@CoreyC By anxiety do you mean from the thoughts?? Or just anxiety itself?

@21816ogeid I wish I could tell you exactly because it was a mix. What happened with me is that I would wake up very early almost daily in sheer panic.. and it would sit with me all day. I would pace around my house just feeling like complete crap.. on top of it I would have my ocd theme as well that was going full force x10. Before Zoloft..I was never really anxious nor depressed..I just suffered with intrusive thoughts that would come and go and put me in slumps from ocd I didn’t know I had. Being on the Zoloft for the first 2-4 weeks I never ever ever ever felt that much anxiety and panic before in my life it was horrifying. I struggled with work... Freaked out so many times trying to get ahold of my doctor.. etc but I’m don’t just take my horror story so many people react completely different

@21816ogeid It will just stay positive and don’t get caught up in all the negatives like my story because everyone is different. Don’t take anything seriously for the first few weeks and tell yourself it’s the meds. I’m doing therapy through nocd and it’s great also just a FYI..definitely learning to handle this 1000xs better than ever

I’m on Lexapro. It’s been about 7 weeks and I don’t know if it was just a big placebo effect or if actually worked from day one, but I didn’t have any side effects. I just almost immediately started feeling like myself again. My anxiety reduced a lot (I still have a bit of anxiety, but I’d say level 1 and it was around 9 before meds). I didn’t have any major side effects. I think the meds take away your anxiety and then it’s easier to stop the compulsions. After a while resisting the compulsions, the thoughts reduce their frequency (I’m still not 100% over my main obsession, but I’m living a great life)

As for someone that’s been on Zoloft for 2 months now I honestly feel no different. Maybe it’s just me and my dosage but they are supposed to help by decreasing your anxiety which in turn helps rumination/obsessive thinking since your anxiety levels are lower.. but in terms of thoughts no.. your thoughts will always be there and that’s normal.. it’s your reaction that counts
