I just hope what I have is HOCD and not that I’m gay/bisexual in denial. I just tried my first self erp session today while at work. It caused my HOCD to intensify in frequency with the rumination, and intrusive thoughts about the past.

Well that’s great that you had your first erp session. Im proud of you because I know how stressful and interrogating that could be. I’m going to have mine on thursday. I’ve been feeling scared and worried that all I’m thinking is real and not actually ocd. But exactly that is ocd. It’s so easy to just get so caught up in your head and that’s the troubling thing. I’m trying to not be scared but yet excited because you’re one step closer to being happy, and enjoying life again.

@happy065 But something happened just now where I’m in a pretty crappy mood atmI just blocked someone who was asking me triggering questions about whether or not it was truly me or OCD making me questioning my sexuality, and now my HOCD makes me think that I’m proving him right and that I’m gay/bisexual in denial. Also it’s like I have no anxiety anymore, like I’ve actually turned gay/ bisexual or that I’ve been in denial this entire time.

@SOOCD I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling right now and what you’re thinking. I’m trying not to give reassurance, but I do want you to know that. Some people don’t understand because they will get a thought and be like “uh okay, why did I think that but whatever” and move on with their day forgetting it ever even happened. We will continue and continue to think about it because we think it’s real, and omg why did I think that. I don’t know what you’re doing right now but go and get a drink of water, take a deep breathe and tell yourself that you’re gonna get through this and you won’t always feel this way. You’re in tough situation right now but with your therapist things will start working out!

@happy065 Sad part is I don’t have a therapist at the moment. It’s too expensive to afford therapy right now and my family doesn’t have medical insurance sadly 😅😅😅. The only therapy I’ve been using is the forum, a couple people experienced with HOCD, and some YouTube videos. I’m in quite a precarious situation at the moment.

@SOOCD One thing is that I want you to remember is that you will get through this. I’m sorry that you can’t get a therapist, I must’ve misread. Either way, it takes time to see improvement. I have been dealing with OCD for a long time and sometimes I truly feel fine and other times I don’t. It’s a hard situation to be in, I completely understand. Are you doing anything at the moment to try and focus on something else? I’m not saying you’ll completely get it off your mind but sometimes when I have my panic attacks I need to get up, get a drink of water and turn on a makeup tutorial or something that interests me. Another thing I do is talk to myself, out loud. And sometimes you have to accept uncertainty. I hate to say that because it’s so hard to do and sometimes I can’t even do that, that’s why I’m seeing a therapist. But you need to say to yourself “I am not alone. My thoughts are just thoughts, and who cares”

Haha yeah the reassurance part is important. I’m doing okay this Monday. I had some successful erp yesterday, less so today but still holding on. Looking forward to taking some melatonin for tonight, my reward for today. And I got a session for therapy tomorrow.

Yay! Good for you, I’m happy for you! You’ll get through this and sometimes I need to just go to bed as well (I even get excited to do so) I get so tired from thinking of this and that that I will just be like, okay I’m going to take a melatonin and go to bed and deal with it tomorrow. Get a good night sleep, and just talk to your therapist tomorrow, and he/she will help you!

@happy065 He wants to add an antipsychotic cause apparently it's used for people with ocd but one of my core fears is going crazy so its v triggering for me and I've been avoiding him.

@bsmck Maybe it will help you in the long run. I don’t want to give reassurance but you feel that it really does help you. Would you want to take that shot to get a chance of happiness or allow your ocd to bring you down. If it’s to stressful then talk to him and ask for other options!

The medication might work for you, or it might now. You can take the chance or you can talk to him about it. It’s completely up to you and him but either way it is YOUR decision!:)
