Sometimes. So I don't have the trauma factor, but my ocd definitely affects my perception of reality. Sometimes I will work into a frenzy and be convinced I am dying. Once I had a lot of spit in my mouth and figured I was an undiagnosed diabetic in ketoacidosis and I was going to die. That was a rough one. I know they say not to ask for reassurance, but sometimes I will "fact check" myself with my boyfriend, since my perceptions are definitely distorted by emotional reasoning/anxiety at points.

Have you spoken to a therapist as of yet?

Yes I definitely struggle trusting myself, my own decisions and my feelings. This is a big part my therapist would like to rebuild into me. It's so hard Always here if you would like to chat, you're not alone

Thanks friend. I appreciate that. I’d love to chat more about this because I struggle with it constantly (half due to trauma as I was raised to believe to not trust myself but a this “higher” being/ system , the other due to OCD.

Thank you. You as well :) do/did you identify with a particular religion or did it come out of nowhere for you?

@Becca i would say if i had to identify as one i’d say Christian. but overall i don’t like organized religion and i like having a more personal relationship. mine started when my younger sister would tell me i was going to hell. she was young and didn’t realize what she was saying but i think it all built up and now it’s coming out. hbu?

@ocdm.7 Same here - I think my religious ocd became less of an issue... when I started to seek more of a personal relationship with Jesus ... tho my mind would still produce blasphemous type thoughts / I was able to deal with it better

@DefeatingThis! right! i think religion puts a lot of pressure and overall fear on us. a personal relationship is way better and i feel like can bring us closer as well.

@ocdm.7 I appreciate that you both can connect spiritually to Christianity and have experienced some relief. :)

@ocdm.7 No unfortunately. I still deal with it but it’s much less present after doing talk therapy for religious trauma. I need to find a therapist who specifically does erp though

Do you mind expounding a bit more ?

Sure! From my trauma lens, I was indoctrinated to believe that I couldn’t trust myself but only “god”. Which, of course, was just the people in my life’s interpretation of that being- and let’s just say that that “being” was abusive. So anytime I felt anger towards that system I was immediately invalidated and told I had no reason to be angry and that I should accept that I deserve terrible things because this system told me I was inherently bad and therefore deserved those bad things. So my trauma healing tells me I need to release that anger/express it but my religious OCD still grabs me and tells me that I’ll be deserving of punishment if I do.

Yeah! I’m considering doing therapy through it
