Very helpful! Thank you so much! Zoloft has been my top candidate for a while. Seems like it produces the most positive responses. Part of my difficulty is finding a psychiatrist who understands OCD and can prescribe it to me knowing confidently that it is the right choice. Not sure where to even start looking for one.

@Anonymous maybe your therapist that you spoke of could have your primary care physician prescribe you medication. i just saw a psychiatrist last week who said i’m experiencing scizophrenic symptoms not OCD, and she prescribed me this medicine that my OCD therapist then said didn’t apply to my condition, which was frustrating because i just wasted $75 on medicine i’m not even gonna take. she then said it might be possible for my PCP to prescribe me anti-depressants so that’s a route i’m goin to investigate. so basically i’m with you on the concern for psychiatrists that do or don’t understand ocd and am thinking about taking this alternative route myself. hope that helps

@ocdin2ascension I found a very similar issue. I had a psychiatrist tell me I had a mood disorder (I really don’t think I do. I get cranky when my anxiety is through the roof) and told me that if she was going to perscribe me Zoloft she also wanted to prescribe something to make sure I didn’t become manic... she also gave into a lot of reassurance and told me to apologize for my real event which sent me into a spiral and made me wonder what was a compulsion and what wasn’t. Honestly I’m really scared to go to anyone who doesn’t have a good background with OCD therapy haha.

I'm going through a horrible time with real event ocd as well, and it's so painful and distressing. :( I don't even think it's ocd anymore, just a response to the situation. I have so much anxiety, I feel like throwing up :( I get you! I think too much caffeine makes it 10x worse though.

That is EXACTLY how I feel. When it’s bad, it’s to the point where I’m not suicidal, but I prefer being unconscious. It’s stuff that is definitely bad. Probably very much so. Most people would feel pretty stinkin guilty I think, but the frequency and severity of my guilt can’t be normal. It’s legitimately too much to handle sometimes. I both want to apologize and know that I shouldn’t for several reasons. SO difficult to navigate this type of OCD. I’ve had all kinds of OCD too, but this is by far the worst.

Yes! My ocd is switching between different types too, mainly contamination and real life ocd! Real life ocd is the worst stress I've ever experienced. It shifts from situation to situation and every time it feels unbearable. I keep thinking about stuff over and over and suddenly I remember another detail to add to it, and then make it even worse. 2 months ago I had really bad guilt ocd from YEARS ago, and this time I'm obsessing badly about someone telling lies about me (also from years ago) and now i'm like "omg what do people think of me?? Have they heard any lies about me?" etc.. And the whole thing came up again from nowhere too! I'm always one unfortunate thought away from weeks of obsessing ugh :( I hope we both feel better asap!
