Me too. I find it especially hard since there is a bit of truth to me getting stressed but ocd makes me exaggerate it. What do you find helpful for working through these thoughts?

I don’t struggle with real event OCD as much anymore, but I used to have to compulsively confess every detail of the real events bothering me and get reassurance on it/analyze it.

That’s great to hear. You mentioned you no longer struggle with it as much. Is there anything you did that was particularly helpful to improve?

@Wolf1717 My compulsions involved getting reassurance about the event. Eventually, I decided to kind-of trust what my parents and counselor said — that the event was meaningless — and stop asking for reassurance about it. I still doubted, but I stopped my compulsions because I knew the answer would be the same every time and that it was just OCD coming up with another detail about the event. Now, I rarely feel the need to analyze it. An article from ocdspecialists.com labeled Real Event OCD helped, too.

@Madison Hey, Madison it's nice to see you again. It's even nicer to see that you're actually beating Real Event OCD which is more than a noble achievement in my opinion. I congratulate you on that big time. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat when it comes to seeking reassurance and not being able to put my mistakes to rest. The doubts can be really strong at some points but at other points not so much and I can see through my mistakes. It's complicated. I'm analyzing it nonstop, yet I feel like my younger self wouldn't even think about it at all until later. Well, here I am. I just can't let it go as much as I want to. I'm just glad you're finding a way to get through this though..

@BigGip09 Analyzation is so hard to refrain from! I completely get you. I’m sorry if I’ve asked before (forgive my memory if it’s failed me!), but do you see an OCD therapist at all?

@Madison You haven't asked me that, but no I don't. I don't know where to take start to be honest

@BigGip09 I would totally recommend getting one. They’re the experts. They could shave huge chunks of time off your recovery process because they know exactly where to guide you and how to help you; this is what they’re expert in!

@Madison Sounds like a really good idea but idk I feel kinda scared to get started. I never wanted to feel like I had a problem and if I did I always tried to work on it on my own. But therapy does sound really good

@BigGip09 But if it costs money then idk

@BigGip09 I’m scared too. I think everyone’s worst fear is that when they go to therapy, their therapist will tell them that they really are the thing they’re concerned about. But most therapists will tell you that none of their patients’ OCD fears were ever true. We have more to lose by not going than by going!

@Madison You're right about that part. I'd rather make the attempt to get the help I need more than not getting it at all
