I take Prozac 20mg and it is very helpful for me-I’ve tried many different medications and this one seems the best for me at least. My brother in law is also in it for OCD and does great with it and then I also take as needed Klonopin 0.5mg for anxiety

I’ve been on Zoloft, Prozac, and Effexor, but since my big relapse of OCD my doctor put me back on Prozac to try again. My question is: has it actually been helping you with the repetitiveness of the intrusive thoughts or has it just been decreasing your anxiety as a result of the intrusive thoughts?

@MegB How long have you tried Prozac for? I didn’t notice a difference for about 5-6 weeks. To answer your question, for me it had helped with the repetitiveness in a way. I still get OCD thoughts, I’m not even sure the amount of OCD thoughts has decreased but it’s hard to explain it’s almost like the part of my brain that was going a thousand miles an hour trying to figure out the “answer” to the thoughts has slowed down...like the connection between the obsession and compulsion is slower and not as much like “I have to figure this out” I’m not sure if that makes sense...I think it also has helped a little bit with anxiety but mainly I notice it even in therapy when I’m trying to trigger myself and don’t get nearly as triggered as I did before medication. Hope this helps.

@Simplicity That definitely helps, thank you. Last time I was on prozac for at least 7 years, but the only reason I switched to Prozac was the side effects of Zoloft. So, I wasn’t really paying attention to how it made me feel with OCD cause while I had OCD symptoms, I wasn’t too worried about them because it wasn’t interfering with my life too much. It was just kinda like “oh there’s my ocd again, that bastard” and I’d do whatever little thing I needed to do to move on. Back in March my primary doctor switched me to effexor because I was still low one energy. That clearly did not go well as I am currently on this app lol. So now I’m back on Prozac 20 mg to start off.

@(: It didn’t make the ocd worse, it actually helped a lot, but the side effects weren’t great. I had NO energy. I gained at least 50 pounds and I just slept all the time. Granted, I’ve always had a low metabolism, so the side effects I had might not be as bad for someone else.

@Anon4 What were Zoloft side effects?

I'm on Prozac, used to be 80mg, now at 40mg. It's helped so much. I tried Zoloft and it made it worse, unfortunately. You might have to try more than one to get the right med and dose.

If you don’t mind reading and answering the same question I asked @simplicity above this, I would be super grateful!

@MegB It both decreases the amount of thoughts and the intensity of them. It also helps to know its ocd- when I didn't know I thought I was crazy.

@(: Zoloft made my depression much worse. I was suicidal and losing weight, and my ocd was still there. Thankfully this was caught early and I was taken off of it.

I’ve been taking 100mgs of Zoloft, and I feel my anxiety has gone wayyyyy down. I was unable to eat or sleep before taking this. Now I sleep and eat just fine. I still get some anxiety and I still get the intrusive thoughts and rumination. But at least the anxiety isn’t as bad as it was.
