Please I’m suffering so bad with existential. I keep trying to make a post on here asking for help but my app is glitched and freezes everytime I try to write one. This morning has been especially bad for me

I'm so sorry you are in a tough place right now Erma.would you prefer to talk via this app, or on email? I know you must feel scared from these thoughts. I have been there too. Things can get much better and you can receive help from someone who can teach you how to get better from ocd! You will not have to do it alone, people will help you 😊

Mine is doing that too! I messaged the help chat yesterday and they said it was a bug that would be fixed by this morning, but apparently it’s not fixed. It sucks cause I’m struggling extra hard in the last couple days.

@MegB It's sounds like you're having a really tough time. It fits what you are going through with how you are feeling.. It can feel so alone doesn't it. But that's where I can come in ☺️ and other people! You're definitely not alone. One of the big nasty lies OCD tells us is 'But what if this isn't OCD and you really DO think this.' that's a classic intrusive thought! Is there anything going on in your life that has made it a tougher time than usual, outside of OCD?

@ButterflyStar Well, the election is what triggered everything. I was angry for awhile about political differences and upset with my family for not thinking the same way I do, but then election night came and a switch was flipped in my brain where I thought “oh my god what if I really can’t accept that they think differently from me and I have to leave my family and never talk to them again to be happy?” And that set off a really exhausting month and a half of questioning whether or not it was my ocd (cause I’ve had symptoms before that had been managed by medication), going on leave from work because I was so upset all the time, and feeling so alone because this isn’t a theme I’ve ever heard of and we know there are other people who fight with their families about politics. The difference is I refuse to let this become real and I refuse to let myself live without them. It’s just been really bad the past couple days cause I came to the realization that I genuinely cannot get over some of these political differences and it must not be ocd. And since it’s not ocd, I have nothing. I can’t force my brain to change, I can’t force my family to change (even though they’ve been very open and they’re much less one sided than I am), and if it’s not mental illness then it’s just me and I can’t live with it. I can’t sleep anymore cause all I’m thinking is what’s the point. There’s nothing left. And it’s not ocd and I’m alone.

@MegB Hey! Sorry for taking a wee while to reply. Well firstly I want to say, you are very articulate and explained that all perfectly to me! I understand that feeling of just a switch in the brain, and suddenly life is different. That in itself is really scary and traumatic in nature. I am not a professional, but it does sound like ocd to me. With the nature of the intrusive thoughts and attachment placed on the thoughts. I think kinda if it wasn't OCD, you wouldnt be so highly distressed about it. OCD is relentless.. No peace, no sleep, no rest from the thoughts. I would also say, OCD can tend to ebb and flow. So it might 'disappear' for a while, but then a highly stressful time can reignite it and it can return, either on the same topic or another theme. It sounds like the political situation and family conversations was stressful,and our obsessive thinking nature can tend to reappear. Would you be able to chat to a doctor, or someone on this app Nocd to chat about it? 😊 Either way, you are not alone! And either way, you're not a bad person or anything for finding it difficult to accept your family's views at this moment in your life! ☺️If at any time you would like to chat via email I am more than happy to!

@ButterflyStar Thank you for responding! I appreciate it a lot. I’ve talked to a doctor and they think it’s ocd too, but I’m having a hard time believing it. Thank you so much for taking the time to type out such a thoughtful response. It was very kind of you.

@MegB I'm so glad you got to see your doctor and they also think it is OCD. I know the thought of 'But what if its not OCD' is soo scary too, but I believe with some help that thought will be more obvious to you that it is ocd. You're not the first person who is convinced it's not OCD 😊, and I say that in a positive way, you're not alone! A big DOUBT (breeding ground for ocd) is the thought 'What if its not OCD?' So many of us, if not all, I would say have believed this couldn't possibly be ocd. Did you doctor chat to you about next steps for help? 😊 Of course, it's not a problem, I felt so alone and wouldn't want someone else to feel like that.

@ButterflyStar She said to just keep practicing my exposures and taking care of my self. I’m just very confused because the exposures don’t make me feel anything. They make me uncomfortable, but my thoughts are always there so I’m uncomfortable in general. I’m not scared to do the exposures and there’s no anxiety. It just doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything.

Yessss oh my gosh.. Ugh!!! Lol. For you too?? Sitting in church is so hard. Reading the Bible. The ocd just latches on to everything. I suppose it would be like for someone with contamination watching cleaning adverts, guidelines for corona virus, people talking about triggering words-the OCD must surely twist this. 😐😔😔
