@lypc Thankyou. So she did have a minor stroke. But the doc said she was lucky and it reversed itself. They kept her overnight as a protocol. I spoke to her on the phone and she sounds absolutely fine but they have given her meds. I'm calmer because my dad had a stroke last year (much worse than mums) and hes fine so I dont feel overly worried. I keep having "what if?" thoughts but I'm trying to stay calm. Im just telling myself I can handle anything that comes my way.

@MJocd Ahh a TIA, it'll be alright MJ, you absolutely can handle anything and we'll be here for you too. My mum had what they thought was a stroke last year and it turned out to be a severe kidney infection causing neurological symptoms. A few weeks of very high stress- they found kidney masses and scheduled her for brain and full body MRIs and CTs thinking it was late stage metastatic cancer, but it all cleared up on its own. It was absolutely terrifying, I don't even get on great with my mother and I was phoning up the hospital all the time trying to get updates etc. The meds will help your mum and lifestyle changes may be able to help for the longer term. People you love getting old and sick is really hard but it definitely isn't worth sacrificing your mental health over- I have a family friend with such severe OCD about the health of her family members that's she's ruined her relationship and is completely non functional. Do everything you can to stay resilient and don't let your world get too small in terms of what you give your energy to ❤️

@Scoggy They thought it was a minor stroke, but turns out from the CT scan that it wasnt anything like that. I think it was bells but I'm waiting for the discharge letter to come in the post. Shes been given the meds. It was all very horrifying. But shes been sent home now with meds so it wasnt anything to worry. Thankyou for such a supportive message.

I’m sure that your mum will be ok. Try to take some deep breaths and try not to worry.

:s if that came on suddenly it could be a stroke or TIA even if she doesn't have speech or balance symptoms right now, definitely better to be safe and get to the ER ASAP

I hope it's not, hope its Bell Palsy. Hope she comes home tonight :( I'm getting increasingly worried as more time goes on.

@MJocd So that you know for the future, bells palsy doesn't come on suddenly and strokes and TIAs don't have to have all the symptoms- in fact they usually don't, but they almost always have either the face issue or struggling to hold up your arms level in front of you without one of them feeling heavy and being harder to keep up, or slurred speech. The FAST acronym is: Face- is one side of their face dropped? Arms- does one arm (or leg) feel heavy? Speech- is speech slurred? Time- the faster you get them to a hospital, the better the survival odds are. Your post made me very concerned about your mother taking a shower before going. Please share the acronym with your family so that they understand if it happens again that any of those symptoms can indicate a medical emergency and it's important to act ASAP. ❤️

@Scoggy So yesterday they thought it was a minor stroke, but all the tests it seems that it wasnt. I believe it was bells but came on from high blood pressure. She has the medicines that my dad is on for stroke though. She has been discharged. My dad had a stroke last year and refused to go doc quickly. It wasnt good because he hand longer lasting effects. My mum seems well, her face has dropped more than last night though. I did raise alarm bells and forced mum to get emergency care, everyone was so relaxed but I didnt want the nightmare with my dad to repeat. She took a shower while the paramedics came. But I agree, acting fast is important.
