I’m on day 10 of Lexapro. The side effects weren’t ideal the first few days but feel pretty much normal now. I definitely have less anxiety already. The thoughts are there, I can just deal with them slightly better? Not sure yet, it hasn’t been in my system long enough to see a real effect.

I’ve been taking Lexapro on-and-off for two years now. At first I found it a bit hard to focus during lectures but after a while it really worked well for me in regards to my anxiety. I still have my obsessions and compulsions while on meds but my anxiety is either not there at all or just slightly present. I was off Lexapro for a bit but just recently started taking it again. As for the side effects I’m experiencing right now: I’m having trouble sleeping or either can’t get enough sleep (depends on the day - today I’m super tired). Other side effects I currently have is unusual sweating and a decrease in my sex drive. With that being said, medication side effects are different for everyone.

I started taking prozac at the end of last August. first couple weeks were hard but eventually my depression improved which is what was making therapy so hard for me for months. the obsessions are still difficult at times but I'm not immobilized by depression so I can work on ERP and CBT now more easily.

Lexapro but turns out I have bipolar. It therefore had the opposite of the intended effect. My sister had success on Paxil and she had OCD, too

My daughter was put on Zoloft mostly due to depression that stemmed from intrusive thoughts but no one seemed to call it OCD. She says the thoughts are still there but are "numbed" and she's not so affected by them.

I was on Lexapro for a year as a young teen and then switched to Prozac which I have been on for six years now. The Lex along with therapy helped lift me out of a deep suicidal depression in a matter of about three months. Then a year later it seemed to stop working for me so I was switched to Prozac. I have been doing well on Prozac for 6 years now. I am now on 80 mg which according to my doc is the highest possible dose for me. Recently added Wellbutrin in to help w depressive symptoms.

Has anyone been prescribed Escitalopram for their OCD? And if so what was your experience like. I just got into my 2nd week of it and got bumped up to 20mg. Today has been weird because my anxiety is gone which has been for a bit but the thoughts seem stronger today especially the Harm related ones. Almost like commands now. Can anyone relate?

I try and read/post on this message board at least every now and then as a way to feel connected to people in the OCD community, and to offer whatever kind of advice my experience has taught me, because I don’t think any human should have to struggle with OCD. I wanted to share that since starting clomipramine, my symptoms have become a lot less severe. I was hesitant to try this medication even though my dr has suggested it because it’s an older antidepressant, so it comes with more side effects. For me, that’s been issues urinating and when I first started a really odd feeling when I yawned (like, the heck?). And then a specific spinal reflex that is not appropriate to mention was physically impossible for about a month, but I’ve regained some ability there…. But the side effects for me are 100% worth it given how much it’s helped me. I can walk away from obsessive thoughts / behaviors without going nuts or having to perform some other ritual just to walk away lol. I can put thoughts out of my mind more easily, let them go, and move on. It’s like a switch. I still struggle, but I still don’t think the medicine is fully effective just yet, and I just have a lot more hope for the potential of a normal life now. Or like, a functional one at the least. So if you’re currently out of luck and haven’t tried this medicine yet, I recommend giving it a shot. I take 75mg right now and think I may need to increase some, but even now it’s helping so much. Don’t let dosage increases scare you, the side effects will taper back down… I hope this helps someone.
