If u just feel things like feelings now that’s not psychosis that’s still ocd.

Not psychosis.. just OCD. Isn't that one of the subtypes of OCD?-- thinking "what if this isn't OCD but something else, something worse"

@jasminex123 Psychosis is a condition that affects the way your brain processes information. It causes you to lose touch with reality. You might see, hear, or believe things that aren’t real.

@feethebee Oh I see. But people believe their thoughts and feelings w ocd, is that not psychosis ?
- Date posted

@jasminex123 not really. people with ocd typically acknowledge that their fears and compulsions are irrational, even if that's not always the case, but either way ocd can't be the same thing with psychosis because for example antipsychotic medication has been shown to be ineffective in treating ocd, it actually exacerbates it. however there have been quite a few cases where patients with severe untreated ocd (mixed with other factors like sleep deprivation and prolonged anxiety) developed psychosis at some point. it's not thaaat common though.

@feethebee I see, but some people with ocd don’t recognize their thoughts are irrational

@jasminex123 can you give an example of that please?

@jasminex123 im guessing that this is a result of anxiety. this can happen with severe ocd, i think that especially when exposed to trigger most of us felt that our fears were real at some point. nonetheless note that psychosis doesn't only include delusions, it also includes hallucinations like seeing things that aren't there for example. so i don't think that anyone would simply claim "oh they believe their fears are real so they must be psychotic not ocd" because there are many other factors that come into play

@feethebee Yeah cause a lot of people on this app with ocd believe their fears, that’s why I’m curiosu

@jasminex123 yeah that's indeed an interesting question. we'd need a professional to answer this but, generally speaking anxiety always makes the fear seem real sort of

This is very possible because I have Schizoaffective disorder, along with my OCD, which can cause delusions.

Wdym delusions?

@jasminex123 Delusions are misperceptions of what is real or not real. They can be thoughts or fantasies. Delusions are close to OCD thoughts but not the same.

My previous therapist believes I deal with psychosis but I’m a little to sharp to know when I’m feeling fine and then all of a sudden I feel uncomfortable in my body by not what I’m looking at or a thought popping up.

I’m not wondering if I have psychosis though instead of ocd. I’m asking if ocd can go so far you’re psychotic? Because I actually believe my ocd thoughts completely

i saw this question on quora earlier and a psychiatrist stated "If untreated, severe OCD could cause psychosis through prolonged exposure to anxiety, sleep loss, isolation and other mechanisms, but I have found this surprisingly uncommon."

@feethebee That's true. Sorry 🙂, I didn't think about that.
