At some point the majority of people with OCD get scared of feeling happy from their thoughts.

right but i can actually feel feelings of happy sometimes

Me too. But they’re just thoughts. We’re allowed to think and feel however. Worrying about feeling happy off the thoughts is normal in the OCD world

but isn’t worrying about feeling things different from actually feeling them?

is there a difference between the feeling and the worrying

@lmaocd🍓🥰 You’re right there is a difference but just bc you’re actually feeling happy about those thoughts doesn’t make them true. It doesn’t MEAN you are those thoughts. I know how you feel about this tho bc sometimes I smile while thinking them too and then I’m like... omg... that means something. But it doesn’t. OCD makes us attach meaning to every little thing. This is a super common question for ppl w ocd. What does it mean if I actually like my thoughts? It doesn’t really mean anything. I hope that helps a little. I know it’s very confusing and can send you in a loop trying to figure out what things mean. But we all have to sit w the uncertainty and not try to come to a definitive answer bc we won’t get it.

@YourFriend so what ur saying is there is a difference because worrying is one thing n feeling is another, but at the same time feeling isn’t indicative of being in denial just like worrying isn’t? is that what u mean

@lmaocd🍓🥰 Yes that’s what im trying to say :)

You have sexual orientation OCD about being with men right? So I’m kind of guessing none of this is really helping you atm huh. I’d try to sit with the uncertainty of it but remember that OCD loves to make things as real as possible for us. That’s why groinals and false attractions are a thing. Maybe you are experiencing false feelings (which is common) and maybe you’re not.

@lmaocd🍓🥰 Yes but you know the other way around because I have OCD about women. I remember reading something about if you feel happy with the thoughts then they are real and all of a sudden I started feeling happy about the thoughts even though it came with a ton of anxiety. My feelings were all jumbled up for a while and I couldn’t tell if they were real and I was suppressing homosexuality or if it was just my OCD messing with me. At the time it felt super real, but now I can look back like “oh that was my OCD” It’s weird because a lot of our emotions share the same physical ques, we just determine the emotion/feeling based on context. Like the ques for anger, fear, and arousal are the exact same. There is no difference. We only distinguish them based on context. So if you were on a tall building and felt your heart beating and an increase in adrenaline you would be like “oh I’m scared” but if you were with your SO having those same ques you would be like “oh I’m turned on” It’s really interesting. With OCD the whole context thing gets messed up in our brains and we can sometimes interpret those ques differently because our OCD wants us to.

@stop. that’s so true. i guess it’s just really scary to feel sometimes, as u explained. so u have recovered and u are living ur life normally in terms of ur view of ur sexuality? it’s hard to think it could be anything but happiness though because it makes me smile sometimes. and someone on a forum told me these things i describe are not ocd and instead real attraction.

@lmaocd🍓🥰 I still have ways to go I feel like, but I’ve done a lot better and my head is a lot clearer. I still get doubts though. I actually had a big one today. Sexuality is really confusing and there’s a lot of labels and definitions and what if’s and its too much for me sometimes. I’m at a point now where I know what I want and who I am for the most part, I just get caught up in the technicality behind it.
