Please know that the subject of your OCD does not matter. If you have constant intrusive thoughts comign into your head all day long, and do (mental) compulsions, it's a very high chance you have OCD.

yeah same :/

The different themes have different compulsions and responses. They have sweet spots that meet in the middle. OCD says this over and over again “but what if it isn’t?” Key words there “what if” OCD will try to deny it’s existence like when you’re in trouble with your parents as a kid and you go “it wasn’t me”

I’m not only talking about the theme. But the pattern itself. I barely get any intrusive thoughts just repetitive thoughts of doubts. I’m not addicted to Compulsions bc the don’t bring me much relief.

@Tiredxxx OCD is nicknamed the doubting syndrome

@Tiredxxx Repetitive doubts are intrusive thoughts

@Tiredxxx And compulsions don’t always bring a ton of relief. But they are performed in an effort to find relief and they are very very hard to resist. One of the least gratifying but most common mental compulsions would be simple rumination. If you spend hours each day thinking about this, that’s a compulsion.

@pureolife I guess this makes sense. I’m tired of doubting if I have ocd but I guess that’s the nature of the disease

Describe it. Maybe someone here has a similar experience or will have relevant advice if it sounds like something else. Also: have you been diagnosed by a professional or are you self diagnosed/suspect it’s ocd currently?

I suspect it’s ocd. I haven’t been diagnosed. Also read what I wrote above

I have not been formally diagnosed but my doctor has examined me and been in contact with my therapist. Given how it runs in the family. The way it impacts my life. They have concluded OCD just not on a official document yet. A mental health clinician can do that. I constantly seek reassurance in my self and others that I won’t do something, I lock myself away kind of in a sense where it feels like I’m backing into a corner to hide from something, there is doubt of myself and values that pop in which OCD does. There was a period because I’m 21 where I was scared to take a sip of alcohol because I thought I would have a full blown panic attack. There are all different kinds of things I could name. My OCD then tries to push blame on other things. OCD likes to see how long it hide from you.

@Live108010 I’m sorry for all of this. I guess I shouldn’t be comparing myself to anyone or try to find any similarities then.

do you think it’s possible for someone to be diagnosed with OCD and then it turns out they don’t have it?
- Date posted

@doloresguppies Anything is possible. May I know why you’re asking?
- Date posted
- 4y
@Tiredxxx because i’m really worried that everyone has genuinely misdiagnosed me and that i’ve been lying and tricking everyone
- Date posted
- 4y
@doloresguppies Well it’s unlikely for that to happen. That’s the nature of this disorder. Honestly, if we were absolutely sure that we have ocd, ocd wouldn’t be the problem it is.

@Tiredxxx so you don’t think i just lied to get a diagnosis
- Date posted

@doloresguppies May be you lied, may be you didn’t. Just sit with all those feelings and don’t try to figure it out

@Tiredxxx i can’t

@Tiredxxx i feel like i KNOW i’m gay and i lied to everybody
- Date posted

@doloresguppies Well you have to try to sit with it. I know it’s hard believe me bc I’m pretty much in a similar situation but At the end of the the only solution is to sit with these feelings and be comfortable with it.

@doloresguppies Most people with ocd doubt their diagnosis. And that doubt is a direct result of your ocd. https://ocdla.com/doubt-denial-ocd-5342

Same here. And I feel so incredibly scared of describing it because I don't know where does it come from

I feel you. I do have a theme that no one relates to

What’s your theme? OCD isn’t so black and white. It’s everyone’s own story and journey

Mostly zoophile ocd & basically being an otherkin (people who think they’re animals or aspire to be one). It bothers me a lot as no one I know has this theme. It’s also the pattern of ocd I have that leaves me confused sometimes. I wrote it in the comments

@Tiredxxx Just because people don’t have that theme, doesn’t mean it isn’t OCD. I would talk to an OCD specialist. If it meets criteria for OCD, it’s OCD. The THEME DOES NOT MATTER. OCD is OCD, it just wears different masks. Which are the different themes.
