I’m glad, let’s take on ocd and punch it in it’s ugly face and starve it

I’m still learning about OCD and compulsions, can compulsions seem like they’re trying to protect you? Cause I’ll act on something out of fear of what could happen, and it becomes a downward spiral of addiction and checking this or that. My mind is very convincing telling me it’s for my own good and protection from what could happen.

That’s what compulsions do they are performed as a way to neutralize anxiety as a result of intrusive thoughts, they feel like they make you safe but they don’t it’s just the trick ocd uses so you can do more compulsions and in a weird way feed the coward ocd

I’m trying really hard to eliminate compulsions. It’s such a challenge, but I want things to improve. It’s hard to stay motivated, but I do find I can feel hopeful at times. Even after all the years I’ve known I have OCD, it wasn’t until now that I really came to understand how I need to face it. It feels daunting at times, but I know now the work that it will take.

Some days you will lack motivation but on those days try harder and don’t give up ocd wants you to give up but we and everyone that loves and supports you want you to keep going because we are there by your side also walking in uncertainty but with faith. Don’t let anything tell you how to live your life, make the choice to not do compulsions and you will see how your day improves

can a compulsion be telling my mom details about my current obsession? because when i have told her the exact details in the past i felt better for a bit and that specific obsession went away for a bit until a new one was created and then the cycle of telling her started all over again. i cant tell if telling her is a good thing or a compulsion and i need help before i decide to tell her something again pls

Talking to your mom is a blessing, talk to her as much as you can about how you feel, a compulsion is something your ocd tells you that you HAVE to do or avoid in order to feel safe . Can you go a day without talking to your mom about the obsession if you can then that’s not your compulsion, but if you feel like you HAVE to talk to her and can’t wait otherwise so and so might happen or be true then that’s your compulsion. Please seek help from a professional therapist it will answer all the questions you have and will put you on a good path to feeling like you again . God bless

@NOCD Advocate - Cesar O. i haven’t told her about the details of the current obsession for like a week but i feel rly guilty about not telling her. i’m scared that one day when i’m ready to tell her it will be too late or something. i know it doesn’t make sense but i feel obligated to tell her so i can’t tell if it’s a compulsion

@😚😚 I think, and don’t quote me on it, we can also identify a compulsion by putting it through this filter, would a person without ocd feel that much anxiety about not doing such thing? If the answer is no then most likely it’s a compulsion, sit down talk to your mom tell her about the obsession and tell her about ocd tell her to help you seek help, you will overcome this, have faith God loves you and is always with you
