I think it’s possible to do on your own and it sounds like you’re doing a good job. They mainly teach you how to do ERP most effectively with your specific type of OCD. Also maybe you can invest in things like highly recommended books in the OCD community

Do you do therapy? With NOCD? Do they let you out if you realize after a couple sessions you’re further into recovery and don’t need all 9 sessions? Where would you say you were in recovery when you started if so? My thing is I know there’s probably things I’m doing and don’t know they are compulsions so being more educated could help me to not do those but yeah maybe a book would help but I also am a little lazy and wonder if a therapist is gonna teach me what I book could or is it going to be strictly erp?

hmmm i agree!^ therapy for personally helped me even though i started practicing erp before my first session. have a few sessions, and if you think your therapist can assist you in your recivery, maybe keep going. if you dont jive so much with them, then maybe not. even if you think you’re doing well, it’s always nice having someone there to understand exactly what you’re going through😌

Did you go through NOCD? I worry if I start and realize I’m doing good after 2 seasons they won’t let me out! I know they can teach me a lot I don’t know bc I don’t know a lot but from what I’m understanding it’s basically just doing things that trigger you and not doing compulsions as a result? I know I’m not doing erp like on the level of therapy I’m doing it in the sense that I’m not clicking out of a video that talks about my theme or not staying off Facebook to avoid another theme and when I get triggered I try to not check or do a compulsion.. so I guess it’s just less intense?

@Justmesadly im sure they have no right to force you to keep going if you don’t have the means :). i did do therapy through nocd, and yes personally my therapist taught me to target compulsions and fears that i had at a seemingly hiden level. i was not super recovered when i started sessions, hence why i felt i needed to conitnue therapy. what you’re doing for erp right now though is great and you should keep going!!!

@L🌵 I have been told I can back out at anytime if I change my mind so that’s comforting! I don’t think I have anything hidden I know my fears and I already told the therapist them at my first diagnosis meeting thing! But I do feel like hidden complusions maybe bc I started praying and I asked if that was a compulsion and they said yes so now I’m scared to pray hahaha (I’m laughing at myself not the illness) But Yes I will continue what I’m doing and hopefully the fact that everyone is saying erp is hell isn’t going to scare me away or after the first couple of sessions are unbearable

Yes I do therapy with NOCD. My last session is Tuesday. I was having a super hard time at the beginning. But it’s bc I was in a new relationship and that’s when my OCD gets bad so I started therapy. We broke up so my anxiety reduced dramatically. I kept doing therapy so I could have the tools I’d need to handle the next relationship. I learned a lot about erp and making scripts, loop tapes, and creating good exposures. But since I’m not in a relationship to test out all these new tools when I’m the most stressed, I’m not sure how effective it is yet. But I really enjoyed it. I think you do have to do all the sessions If you decide to do NOCD but I’m not 100% sure. I would call the customer service number and ask. I think you can get a lot of info from books and YouTube videos.

Wow congrats on completing it! I’m the opposite I was very triggered when my ex left me but once he came back I felt a ton better! I contacted someone and they said you can stop at any time if you decide to and they only charge for what you complete. I think(maybe I’m wrong) I’m much further into recovery than most people when finding therapy but last week I got extremely frustrating because I had a super bad day or 2 after having a good month thinking I was recovered but I’m not truly sure how to fully recover or what that looks like and if I’m doing enough to get there so I’m worried doing ERP now is going to be taking 10 steps backwards or basically starting back to where I was a year ago

@Justmesadly Thank you 😊! Oh perfect in that case, I think it’s be worth it to do a few sessions. I felt better before even halfway through. ERP isn’t a step back and there’s no full recovery from it so don’t be scared of it feels tougher every once in a while. Everything is a trial and error! So do more of what works for you. There would be ERPs my therapist and I would try and she’d tell me to let her know what I thought of them and if any didn’t work for me we’d scrap them and come up w something else, which didn’t happen too often. I think a couple sessions would make u feel good :)

@YourFriend I’m calling what other therapist and people call full recovery meaning you no longer care or react to intrusive thoughts and aren’t doing compulsions. But yes I’m gonna try and few and hope I don’t completely start over in my journey after working extremely hard for 5 months to get to the point of functioning again

But it is nice to have the support of your therapist and from this app.

I’m trying my best to shy from the app bc I made Reddit ocd page a compulsion and I don’t want that to be the case with this app. But yes I think the therapist aspect could help minus that I don’t know who the therapist I’m working with is now bc the one I picked, after my diagnosis first meeting thing told me she’s actually not free at the time they told me she was free and Gave me her as an option

Tough call. My inclination is to say if you have the means, do the therapy. At least do one session and discuss this concern with the therapist. See where it goes. The choice however is yours.

I don’t have the means at all.. my parents would have to pay for and I already owe them 8,000$ so I feel super guilty. But with NOCD the therapist made it seem like if you start you can’t stop you have to do all of the 9 sessions? But that would be a ton of wasted money if really I could try a bit harder to continue what I’m doing or speak with a therapist one time to figure out what are all my compulsions to be more aware so I can work on not doing them ?

@Ben84 From the description of the support chat it doesn’t seem like they can answer my question? But I don’t think they work on the weekend and I need to know so I can cancel before it’s too late then I’m charged for canceling late
