I was told I could be put on a $50 a week plan

Which isn’t that bad

I guess but what does that come down to in the end

@NickD Oh boy that is a lot

@maybethistime So six months of $50 Weekly payments and they told me that I can cancel anytime
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime It is a lot and I don’t even have money like that I am only working two days a week but if it’s worth it then it’s worth every penny

@NickD I guess so. I’m in therapy now I’m just not sure if I would benefit from this more

@maybethistime If you’re not seeing an ocd specialist you should for sure change that! Doesn’t have to be from this app especially bc they don’t take all insurance

@Justmesadly I am seeing one, it’s just not on as regular of a basis as is probably necessary but it’s covered by my insurance
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime Oh then you should be good ! Don’t change just to use the app therapists!
- Date posted

@Justmesadly Yeah I’ve been in recovery for a long time though w therapy and tbh it’s not been helping as much as I hoped
- Date posted

@maybethistime If anything, I spiked pretty severely this week esp. last night
- Date posted

@maybethistime If you’ve been in recovery then how is it not helping?
- Date posted

@maybethistime Don’t forget OCD never goes away. You have to continue to work on it yourself for the rest of your life it’s just to make it manageable

@Justmesadly It’s kind of hard to articulate over an app, but I will say that I’ve plateaued and my fears of being a lesbian have not really diminished. If anything, I am very sensitive to other people’s opinions and spike easily based on arousal still. I’m not great at the response prevention yet

@maybethistime I know, I’ve had it since I was a teenager and I’m in my mid twenties now so I’m used to it, but I’m also newly married so let’s just say SOOCD + a new spouse presents new issues

@maybethistime Are you practicing what you learn at therapy at home on your own at 100%? If you don’t put in your own effort and work at 110% it won’t do much for you.
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime Yeah I get that. I’m sure that triggered it all. And therapist have told me it will continue to come back but that’s the point of therapy bc they teach you what to do so when it does come back you already have the skills to go back to managing it

@Justmesadly Well we vaguely discuss hierarchies but none have ever been concretely written with a therapist. And we tend to discuss arousal a lot, but since he’s a man a lot of what is said I often take with a grain of salt and find myself pretty fixated on past experiences, which he is pretty indulgent in discussing. I am for the most part okay at managing, but sexual images of women present my largest and most insurmountable trigger

@maybethistime And I would say the dichotomy of straight vs. gay has caused a lot of turmoil for me personally. I understand that straight and gay are irrelevant categories. You know, like what you like in the moment, but I keep trying to force myself in one category over the other and it’s becoming pretty debilitating
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime Yeah I’m not a therapist so I can’t help you but if you’re not comfortable with your therapist because he’s a man than you need to change therapists...
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime Irrelevant isn’t the right word, I mean more like there are nuances for every person
- Date posted
- 4y
@maybethistime Yeah I know nothing about that
- Date posted
- 4y
@Justmesadly I understand, and I would but like I said, it’s kind of hard to get accepted into ocd specialists and it took me long enough to find one so

@maybethistime Anyway, not really looking for definitive answers from you, this was just a good forum to vent my frustrations. I’m not expecting you to diagnose me or help me. Thank you for listening

@maybethistime How’s it hard? All you do is call them and ask them to be seen? I’ve never heard of it being hard ? There’s so many websites that have them now as well as you should be able to look on your insurance websites for them too

@maybethistime Sorry I can’t help, lol I can’t even truly help myself you know. I’m glad you can vent your frustration

@Justmesadly Assuming you’re American that is

@Justmesadly I don’t know what state you’re in, but I am in a pretty limited state in terms of ocd specialist clinics. There are not very many so waiting lists are pretty long. Combine that with making sure they take my insurance, and it takes a bit to find a match. Not trying to be rude, but I think it’s a bit presumptuous if you to assume everyone has the same access to healthcare that you do
- Date posted

@maybethistime I’m not assuming everyone has access to healthcare? You just said that you have access to health care so I think it’s a safe assumption to say that you do? No? Sorry that you’re offended. I feel like if your therapist isn’t working for you then the pain that your describing would be worth dealing with to get a new one... from my perspective. I know it takes effort bc I stopped seeing 3 different therapists and then months later finally decided to see a specialist that doesn’t even take my insurance but thankfully I have a family member who is willing to pay it for me

@Justmesadly I didn’t mean to put you on the defense, but finding one clinic who accepts your insurance is different access to healthcare than someone with a more wide ranging and beneficial plan. I just don’t think it’s fair to say “it’s not hard” to find a therapist because in your experience people haven’t had as much difficulty. I’m not offended or upset, I just think it’s important to be inclusive and not blame someone for staying with a wrong match if it is what they have access to in the moment. And I understand, I have my name on several waitlists so when an opportunity presents itself, I will likely change.

@maybethistime I’m sorry that you took it that way. I’m not being exclusive by any means. I would never recommend staying with the wrong match even if that’s all you have access to. The wrong therapist did a shit ton of damage to me and they can do the same to anyone! Glad you have your name on plenty of waiting lists, that’s a move in the right direction. I don’t think there’s a waiting list for NOCD so you should look and see if they cover your insurance since you have that!

@Justmesadly Totally get that! Im sorry, I had being like this online because it’s super hard to fully grasp what someone is saying. I didn’t mean to come off like I think you’re some asshole blaming people for their insurance. On the contrary, you’ve been very helpful. I’m sorry that happened to you. Something similar happened to me as well! My therapist did not specialize in ocd and every session she reassured me that I liked men. I saw her for 4 years and I was 16, so believe me I was susceptible. And now, reassure still trumps every other mechanism I’ve learned to alleviate my symptoms. The wrong therapist can be detrimental, you’re totally right.

@maybethistime See my therapist reassured my real event ocd and encouraged the confessing. And then for the HOCD she basically was trying to tell me my sexuality and that I was for sure questioning myself because I had intrusive thoughts... months later I realized that literally every person has intrusive thoughts ... therapists can be totally nuts
- Date posted

@maybethistime I’m sorry you went through that too! That’s so bad

@Justmesadly Yeah 6+ years later I’m still asking people online when I know it won’t help because I kind of trained my mind that a. It was good because my therapist approved it and b. It would make it all go away. And yeah the questioning thing with intrusive thoughts is a bonkers thing to say
