ERP involves doing an exposure while resisting or reducing compulsions. It’s an opportunity to practice being with the distress without responding in the way you usually do. While you may feel less distress from therapy, an actual exposure exercise should feel uncomfortably. If you’re doing the compulsions you mentioned after looking at their IG, then you’re reinforcing your obsession. An exposure might be triggering this urge to respond with a compulsion. Maybe writing down that you like this person, and that you’re meant to be together once you’re no longer in denial. Then if you’ve got an urge to check, then you don’t check.
Thank you Carl! I will do that!! I have a big fear that I am in denial or that I am anxious because I want to be with them too so I guess this ERP could help with that too!
Carl, your Q&A webinars have made a huge difference in my life. Just watched one you did with Dr. McGrath and actually laughed throughout the video. You are truly an inspiration and I am very thankful to have you as an Advocate. I have 2 sessions left with my NOCD therapist. I suggest that people check out the NOCD YouTube channel because it really gives you insight about your OCD. Keep up the good work!!

The nocd advocate already put it wonderfully but id like to suggest you write out a story depicting what your “dream life” would be with aforementioned person. like kind of what it would be like if you guys were already together and see where it takes you from there!

@Anonymous kind of but more like in the perspective that you are already with them. and once you’ve finished you’ll realize that you don’t relate at all to what you’ve written.

@Anonymous oop maybe :p i’m very new to the concept of erp. i just based my suggestion off of the formula that this app seems to use to give me my personal erps. i’d take my suggestion with a grain of salt :)

Crap. This person is at an event again tonight. I'm not sure what to do. My mind is saying "you have a crush on him" "you think he looks good" and all that any tips guys??? What do I do? If anyone sees this ofc
Nothing. You do nothing. It’s a passing thought. You don’t have to do anything about it. It’s actually all the things you’re doing (the compulsions) that you need to stop doing.
