I wish ocd had a better reputation and was more openly talked about like anxiety and depression.

I agree. That could help a lot of people immensely. Lots of folks have OCD for decades and don't know it has a name, community, or resources to treat it! Also, more people would feel safer confiding in others about their themes without fear of being judged or misunderstood

People are like “you already did that stop repeating the same stuff” like how bout you have ocd? How about you feel what it’s like. How about you control your nerves on a first date? Huhhh

ocd is not just wanting everything in place or wanting everything to be "perfect". there's other types of ocd: like me and wanting numbers or my number of items or numbers in my life in general to be even because if a number is odd then something bad will happen.

What I actually mean when I say it's "difficult" to talk about. I don't mean it's difficult, as in I get emotional, have trouble expressing myself, or feel too ashamed. I mean it's difficult in that if I don't trust you enough or if you misunderstand me, you might think you need to call the police on me. To be honest, I have bouts where I am very resentful towards people with depression, GAD, or forms of OCD that aren't about violence or taboo sexuality, because I see they're ability to talk about it as privilege I don't have. It's a little unfair of me, but I'm working on it. This is honestly how I feel though.

Talking about any mental illness is certainly difficult. Even in an environment where we can be vulnerable and trust others not to judge, articulating something like OCD in words is very hard. OCD capitalizes on anything we feel vulnerable about, and that makes any part of life that is already hard to figure out as a human being EVEN MORE complicated. This is particularly pervasive with violent and sexual themes, but believe me when I say they are among the most common manifestations of OCD in people. OCD is invisible, and can afflict anybody. It is understandable that we feel may alienated and start comparing our experiences with other people, but I just want to emphasize to you that you're not alone. I've met so many people with themes like POCD and Harm OCD who I would never guess we're afflicted with it unless they were brave enough to share. Our themes are ego dystonic and we react so strongly to them because they go against our core beliefs. Remembering this helps me approach intrusive thoughts of an aggressive or taboo nature, and remembering I'm not alone experiencing them makes me feel like I belong, just as I already am, like anybody else. I hope that my message was helpful, and I'm glad you're recognizing internal conflict within yourself and getting up over and over again and healing despite the way OCD is impacting your life!
