I have the same problem! Genuinely feel like peer support groups keep me sane. When I know other people go through this too. Cancel culture sure makes ocd a big beast. Every little thing is filtered through all or nothing thinking

Yes this is me too. Do not delete your social media , that is avoidance!

i deleted it for more than just my fear of cancel culture and my guilt over my past mistakes. it was negatively affecting my life in ways outside of my disorder, i just didn’t find it useful in my life anymore, but i can see how i did partially use deleting it as an avoidance method

Cancel culture is ridiculous and really distructive and I feel like it’s getting super popular now and I don’t now why

i think it definitely is right to deplatform people who have done messed up things with no intention to learn from their mistakes and better themselves. but unfortunately i’ve seen it time and time again where people are cancelled over past mistakes and not even given the chance to apologize and stand up for themselves. it really makes the voice of ocd in my head tell me that the things i’ve done are terrible and i will never be able to redeem myself. people who aren’t suffering don’t realize how harmful that rhetoric is for those of us with ocd

@anonymous08 Yes ppl should be responsible for the things they do but ppl are so willing to cancel anyone over anything and I’ve just seen a trend of ppl who said something stupid on Twitter 10 yrs ago getting cancelled or something like that. I think it’s just turned into somewhat of a toxic thing

Cancel culture is this really unfortunate holier than thou phenomenon that is going to stick around for a while. We’ve all done something wrong in our lives, we’re not saints, it’s a part of the human condition. I know cancel culture definitely affects me, I contemplate on liking or reacting to certain posts cause I fear if there is something problematic in reacting with it. I would say, however, even though it’s good to detox yourself from social media, you are doing an avoidance compulsion. Maybe slowly get back into it but limit your time (like a couple of minutes a day) so you don’t get addicted to social media. One good thing we can be grateful for with social media, is the increase of educational posts about things that cancel culture tends to target (eg. racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism etc.). Using your platform to educate yourself and others around you is a really good way to learn from your mistakes and reciprocate.
