@Kls2121 Well I got off them. It doesn’t actually make ocd better. I take zinc and taurine it’s supposed to help heal the brain from ocd along with erp

@Anonymous I've tried all the over counter supplements. Nothing seemed to help. I wanted to try meds but I have kids and am so scared of things like the emotional numbness. Ive heard many success stories but many not so much.

@Kls2121 Meds are just a temporary aid to cope w some of the stress. It’s not going to like cure you. Personally I’ve tried them a long time and then I realized I don’t want to put unnecessary things in my body I’m going to try to meditate do yoga pray and live healthier while working on erp and honestly the vitamins like zinc taurine magnesium seem to be helping as well

@Anonymous Thats awesome its working for you. I dont know anyone who would want to be on meds so if you don't need them then that's really awesome. We're you emotionless the entire time on them?

I guess. Honestly I don’t remember that clearly. But that’s what meds do, they numb your emotions. It’s not natural ya know so like I got really into spirituality and doing things the natural way. I’m not saying it’s not hard. But all these things together with time truly work

@Kls2121 Thank you and yeah of course. Just make sure you’re eating a good amount and getting a lot of vegetables protein and those vitamins I listed have helped. Magnesium worked within a few days to uplift my mood and keep me focused but in a good way. And of course stick with erp

Also I started eating a lot more in general. Especially protein. My ocd is worse when I haven’t eaten/lacking the right nutrients

My meds changed my life. I'm much happier/more grounded and intrusive thoughts are less. There's a big stigma around medication, but its bs. Mental illness literally means that there's issues with your receptors and signaling where it's gaba, serotonin, dopamine, glutamate, or abnormal electrical activity in the brain. And don't even get me started on anxiety and the amygdala and the nervous systems. Medication is a science and you have to try it for awhile to find the right thing for you. I don't feel numb and that's typically only associated with ssris. I take lamictal + Buspar everyday as a regime and then have alprolazam available for intense panic attacks and Mirtazapine to put me to sleep as my insomnia is rampant. Talk to a psychiatrist.

Eating healthy is also a really incredible thing for you there's books on how to increase your mental health with food. I have a friend who daily exercise(running) has gave him structure in his life and helped his mental health alot to release all that built up energy inside.

Do you recommend specific books? Thanks for all that. I know everyone's different but I love hearing how meds affect people in different ways. Im a mom and i have just been so scared of meds making my anxiety so worse not being able to take care of my kids. But I feel I keep getting worse and need to do something.

For example, I don't know anyone who would ever advise a schizophrenic not to take their medication..
