learning how to ride the wave! it’s possible. i have had four really amazing days, after a straight month of feeling awful. the longer you practice and sit with the thoughts , the better it will get! i’m sure of it.

I've have a few good day where it's in the background but I'm able to handle it. Lasted about a week. Did tons of exposures but unfortunately, me reacting negatively to triggers or certain thoughts has caught up. Now I'm falling back a bit. I'm gonna try to keep doing what I'm doing. Exposures, exercise, trying to keep busy, hobbies and accepting the thoughts. It's worked so far. But tonight, the feelings that I get from this are terrible and so convincing especially in the moment. It makes me fear the worst.

@Daria Alexandrovna It can be hard but it can help very much. The goal is to expose yourself to the thing that triggers you and sit with the anxiety. I sometimes wonder if ERP is turning into a compulsion. Like I'm doing it wrong. I try not to do it if im feeling like crap but I fail at that too. Last two days I been really doubting OCD.

@Justmesadly I'm trying. Just feels like I'm fighting a losing battle sometimes.

@Jbm421 I know that but it's too scary for me and I feel like just making space between me and thoughts works for me better...

@Jbm421 Yea that’s exactly how I feel too

@Daria Alexandrovna I know that feeling. But as long as it's not avoidance. For instance when this flared up again, I couldn't go to the gym out of fear. My therapist told me to go to the gym and it triggered the hell outta me. I think that is what we need to learn. It can only trigger us be we are in control of our actions.

@Jbm421 I try not to avoid it, but rather tell myself that I am not that... idk it's hard to make a difference between avoidance and that... but I don't avoid my boyfriend. I think I am avoiding writing him something really meaningful bc I am afraid I am making it up

@Daria Alexandrovna Ah I get you. If I wasn't going through this and in a relationship, ROCD would kick my ass.

This is going to hurt but here’s the reality: You can’t be cured of your OCD. You’ll always have OCD. What you can do is heal from the most serious obsessions and have loads of coping mechanisms at your disposal to counteract your OCD.

Well that’s not encouraging at all!

@Justmesadly You have to accept that you won’t be cured of this mental illness before going forward. I know it’s hard, but the truth is important.

@Justmesadly It's not bad. Living with OCD doesn't mean living in suffering. You can experience little to no symptoms. But the possibility of you getting triggered again will always exist.

@Nica Yes I am very aware. I accepted that a long time ago.

You’re lucky. the most I’ve had is an evening where it seemed like my ocd was completely gone but that’s it

Not luck. I have worked my butt off doing ERP and not doing complusions, on my own for the last 5 months, and in therapy for the last month

It doesn’t ever seem like it’s completely gone. But I do get some times with 2 days of no spiraling and being able to sleep

@Justmesadly It looks like you have a very severe ocd

@Daria Alexandrovna From what I have seen compared to some people I wouldn’t say severe. I would say mild. But I’m not sure!

@Justmesadly Idk, I am saying that your case is serious because you Do some work to get better, but it doesn't work out for you. Some people start doing CBT or ERP and the symptoms lessen by a tonn. People, who struggle for 20 years straight either have severe OCD or they aren't doing the work and make themself worse. Maybe they don't know what to do. It happens too. Or theyre not improving. But you are trying and you feel so bad.

@Daria Alexandrovna I did CBT for 11 months with a therapist that was complete shit and made me much worse. I have now been with a good therapist for a month that helps a ton, and I do ERP and continue the CBT on my own as well. I have only had OCD for 13 months(that I know of) but basically it’s been non stop. But yes I do put in the work. My symptoms are much less now. For the first 10 months I could hardly function at all, couldn’t sleep at all. I couldn’t have a clear thought or anything. For the past 2 months I have finally been able to think some and have much less symptoms

@Daria Alexandrovna My therapist has told me that I’m her favorite patient to work with because I want to get better so bad, I put in the work; I do the homework. I’m fully open with her. Etc
