I know how that feels I have those feelings too but I think we just gotta keep pushing through and then eventually it’ll feel a little better

I’ve been there, I think everyone with OCD has. It feels inescapable, real, and crushing. If you were really doomed, there wouldn’t be proven therapeutic methods to resolve it, and there wouldn’t be people who live happy and fulfilling lives with the disorder - like me! Just because it feels insurmountable now, does not mean it always will. Set realistic goals for yourself, and you will reap the benefits. ERP is an amazing resolution, but be aware it is not easy. It gets worse before better, like all forms of recovery! I’m sending you my love, you are seen and heard by me❤️

@lilly I understand, I’ve not tried ERP yet but I’ve been doing CBT for the last 8 weeks. Today I feel overwhelmed as I realised my issue isn’t health anxiety it’s Somatic OCD and it’s made me upset like I’ve taken a million steps back. I’m scared I’ll be stuck like this forever. I don’t see a way out right now

I had really, really debilitating health anxiety for a long period of time. Health anxiety can turn into somatic OCD, it definitely did for me! That is no reason to feel like taking a million steps back, though, then you’re just getting into semantics, because OCD is OCD regardless of how it presents. CBT helps with the ANTs (automatic negative thoughts), but ERP is what is going to really get to the root of the OCD, so I’d urge you to look into it. Realising that there is a somatic component to your anxiety is not as gut-punching as you’re perceiving it to be - it’s a cognitive distortion. You can still keep moving forward the same way you were!! There is a way out, and don’t say that to yourself! Tell yourself there’s a way out, and you’ll begin to believe it - after all, it’s the truth

@Lilly I am moving to ERP now. Tomorrow is my assessment and then I’ll be having my 9-12 week program. I’ve been trying to find someone who has gone through what I am going through right now and I just want to say thank you Lilly because it is really soothing to know someone like me has recovered. Could I ask why you are still on the app? I’m struggling with focusing obsessively on my breathing and now my swallowing. It’s horrible and I can’t stand it I just want it to stop.

@marczay95 I’m glad I could help, even if it was only a little bit. I am completely recovered from health anxiety, and as I said, it was very bad. I’m on this app because I do struggle with other themes from time to time, but very rarely at this point. Sometimes when I have nothing to do I come on here and try and give support to people who need it! I’m so glad you’re doing that - this is your first step to recovery and I wish you well. Please don’t hesitate in messaging me on this thread with anything that is bothering you regarding you health anxiety, or if you just need support from someone who has gone through the same thing. Again, sending you love ❤️
