I’ve experienced this at times. What I’ve tried doing is doing a guided mindfulness practice, where someone is telling you want to do such as focus on the sounds around you, focus on how you feel, etc. This helps me to start grounding a bit. Other times i try to go and do something, find a family member or friend and talk or do something together. Sometimes I’ll straight up just say to myself “yup totally nothing is real this is all fake” - sometimes sarcastically agreeing or acknowledging the thoughts throws it off balance and starts to go away in my experience.

This is EXACTLY what I’m going through right now with my latest OCD flare up. I’ve had it before years ago and it’s truly terrifying at times. I just try to remind myself that “these are my OCD thoughts and it’s the THOUGHTS that are not real/true.” And deep breathing. Seeing a therapist will be helpful too.

It is so difficult to keep yourself grounded when this happens. I feel like my mind has launched me into another universe lol. It was about a 3 day thing but luckily now it’s passed. I hope you find a way to deal with it! I haven’t found anything helpful so far, I just waited for it to pass.

Yes, I have that sometimes but to me personally when it happens to me I believe it's a panic attack. When this happens to me for some reason an ice pack between my thighs, sipping water, and reminding myself that it will pass seems to help me. I think the cold breaks the dissociation for me. I think it might be attached to somatic ocd, maybe.

A lot of people say touching something cold keeps them grounded and calms them down. It hasn’t worked very well for me. I had a really bad one last night where my brain kept thinking “what if nothing is real?” And I kept doing the things that normally help but for some reason, nothing was helping last night and it kept getting worse. And today I just feel weird, like the thoughts haven’t fully gone away but I have more of a grasp on reality.

@Anonymous I understand. Are you doing any counseling right now?

@MKat Not at the moment, but I start on Tuesday! I’m hoping I can realize that these thoughts are just thoughts and get more clarity. But when my brain gets panicked, it sort of makes me feel like I’m in a dream-like state which doesn’t help at all.

@Anonymous Good! I believe the counselor will be able to provide you with the skills that will help you. Don't lose hope! Your journey to healing is beginning!

@Michelemybelle It’s good to talk to other people who experience it but it’s still very unsettling. It’s like I know that my brain is telling me things that don’t make sense, but at the same time my brain just keeps saying “everything around you could just be in your head and you’ll never have any idea” and I know that’s not true but I’ll think about it for hours until I eventually freak out about it.

@Anonymous Yep. Some days are better than others. I think my ocd turned the derealization in a thought.

@Michelemybelle That's what I think happened to me too bc it wasn't just like 'oh derealization weird'. I suffered

Yes, I have had this in my past. I would freak out more and more, and more and more untimely I just burst into tears just looking at my hands while i was playing a game on my mobile phone. This was a while ago
